************
Gentle Jesus comes knocking,
"Oh, won't you let me in?"
Countless times He seeks entry,
To a heart that's lost in sin.
Hardened hearts become calloused,
Years of sin have made it so;
What can soften that hard heart,
Causing new life to flow?
Years and years, sometimes we wander,
Down each dead-end road, we stagger;
Many things can cause unrest,
And, still we go.
No plan...no purpose...no goal,
Aimlessly, still we scurry;
With the grave our destination,
On and on, we hurry.
Burned-out and bedraggled,
In a maze of confusion;
Ever rushing...rushing...rushing,
To an ending, we do not know.
In the midst of such confusion,
Comes a soft "knock"...knocking;
Never forcing - always pleading,
Oh, my heart, why aren't you heeding?
Still, onward...onward, I do go,
Never heeding that gentle knocking;
Rushing...rushing, never stopping,
Surely, there must come an end.
Finally, competely burned-out,
With my life in utter chaos;
Then, I hear that gentle knocking,
And.....respond.
"Gentle Jesus, I do hear You,
And I see how much I need You;
Will You come into my heart,
Make it your home?"
Like a gentleman...He enters,
Here to stay...never to leave me;
He has heard and has responded,
Responded to my humble plea.
Now, my life is ever different,
I don't rush around...don't hurry;
Now, He leads me by His Spirit,
No more fuss and no more worry.
Day by day, through His dealings,
Ever on His grace, I'm leaning;
Trusting...trusting as He leads me,
In this new and living way.
He will go and I will follow,
He will speak...I will obey;
I have learned His ways are perfect,
Gentle Jesus...lead the way.
