************
My heart is heavy…burdened down,
With the events of the day;
The tears they flow…unstopped,
For, another we did slay.
Oh, not by the sword,
But, with words…unkind;
Cruel and defensive words,
To another…of mankind.
It's so easy to praise our God,
With words so rich and flowing;
And, then to turn and injure one,
Who is not of our persuasion.
"Deceived", we shout as though,
It were not possible for us;
"They are the ones deceived",
Because they don't believe…like us.
And, then to pick at their bones,
Like beasts of the field would do;
Surely not for the people of God,
Not for him and her…or me and you.
If God does shed a tear,
For those lost…in sin;
How many more does He shed,
For the believer and his self-righteous toxin?
Can blessing and cursing,
Come from the same mouth;
A fountain with water,
Both bitter and sweet?
God help us…please help us,
The hypocrisy to see;
Don't leave us in our high-minded ways,
Oh, LORD…bring us to our knees.
If we've been enlightened,
More of You to see;
Did we somehow acquire it…ourselves,
Or, did You…alone…do it, sovereignly?
Have we anything…unless from Your hand,
And, even that…in Your timing;
How dare we put down one of Your own,
Because what they say is not to our liking?
Defending You…I think not,
As though You needed that from us;
Oh, my LORD…Oh, my God,
Have mercy on each and every one of us.
If we but realized how very much,
You have delivered us from;
Would we not be more gracious,
To those who do not, see…as yet?
LORD, only You can remove scales from our eyes,
And, unstop every ear;
Help us to take our hands off,
Your voice, LORD…cause us to hear.
No more self-righteousness indignation,
It's just as filthy rags; (Is.64:6)
Humble us, LORD…again and again,
Remember from where You have brought us.
No more bitter and sweet water,
From this fountain…LORD;
Teach us to bless and curse not,
Man…made in the image of God.
