"What is your heart's cry?"
A question posed to me;
After much thought...I answered,
`That I may know...may know Thee.'

"How do you come to know Me,
Know Me and all My ways?
Long hours of prayer and fasting,
Serving Me...maybe on Sunday?

"What of the remaining six,
How do you know Me, then?
More prayer and fasting...serving Me,
When does it all come to an end?

"You'll know Me in the eyes of need,
A child who has no friend;
An old and lonely person,
A beggar...a hand to lend."

`That I may know...may know Thee',
Words so simple...yet deep;
Open my eyes to see You,
Let them not close in sleep.

Not close to the needs of others,
Servant...You would have me to be,
Not in word only, but action,
`That I may know...may know Thee.'
