Persaudaraan Ilmu Dalam Al-Ma’unah (roughly translated in English as Brotherhood of Al-Ma’unah Inner Power) or Al-Ma’unah in short, is a Non-Govermental Organisation (NGO) established in Malaysia under the Association Act 1966. It is an organisation involved in the teaching of martial arts particularly the development of one’s inner power and the practice of Islamic traditional medicine.

Literary, the term "Ma’unah" is an Arabic word which means, something extraordinary that happens to an ordinary Muslim individual, for example extra sensory perception or the ability to see "things" in another dimension (paranormal).

"Al-Ma’unah Inner Power" can be defined as "something extraordinary bestowed to a righteous Muslim (in the form of assistance from Allah) in accordance with specific adherence to tradition and proper sequence emphasising on the Islamic principles and Allah’s commandments as stipulated in the holy Quran".

In teaching the martial art and traditional medicine, the brotherhood placed more emphasis on spiritual development and enlightenment of its members or "ikhwan" as it is known in Al-Maunah, in order to achieve the highest level of proficiency in the art and to attain great healing powers.

History

Al-Ma’unah began its activities in Malaysia in September 1998 with initial members of 54 persons in Kelang (a town approximately 33 km from Kuala Lumpur). Currently it has more than 1,000 ikhwans throughout Malaysia and abroad (i.e. Brunei, Singapore, Egypt and Saudi Arabia).

The organisation is headed by Syeikh Mohd. Amin Mohd. Razali who is also the Head Master (Guru Utama) of the martial art taught under it. Syeikh Mohd. Amin’s quest for knowledge and excellence in martial arts, and traditional medicine began at the age of 16. At that age, he started reading old manuscripts (kitab) on mysticism, occultism, paranormal and metaphysics science that he can lay his hands on, a subject which is considered mysterious and sometimes even a taboo to most people.

He had his education in religious study at Misbah Al-Falahi Pondok Lanai, a religious school located at a northern state of Malaysia. After completing his studies, his quest in this chosen field brought him to Indonesia which is famous for its religious school under the "pondok" or hut system known as "pesantren", various pencak silat (local martial art), schools traditional medicine, paranormal and metaphysic science.

While in Indonesia, he met Ibnu Abbas, the Principal of Al-Ma’unah. After much soul searching and prayers to Allah for guidance, he decided to become a student of Al-Ma’unah under Ibnu Abbas. From there on, there was no stopping back. His diligence and patience in acquiring the knowledge in the art of Al-Ma’unah has shown his potential to master the art in a relatively short time and also the trust of his teacher, Ibnu Abbas. After going through strenuous training and rigorous tests, both physically and spiritually, he was given the credentials to open a school in Malaysia. So far, he is the only one being given such credentials. From one center in Kelang, he has opened other branches throughout Malaysia and abroad.

Philosophy and Mission

The philosophy behind this organisation can be summarised by its motto "berilmu – beramal – beriman – bertaqwa" which can be translated in English as follows:-

(i) "berilmu" - to be a learned person by acquiring the necessary required knowledge

(ii) "beramal" - to practice what one has learned and to carry out good deeds without expecting anything in return and to seek Allah’s

(iii) "beriman" - to be faithful to Islam and a strong believer in Allah

(iv) "bertakwa" - to devote oneself to Allah and lead a pious life (piety)

The main objective and mission of the brotherhood is to instil a sense of devotion and total submission to Allah within the Muslims in general and its ikhwan especially. The secrets revealed in the brotherhood and the ability of the ikhwans to do extraordinary things is only a conduit to strengthen their belief on the glory of Allah. As humans we are nobody and quite helpless. All the superhuman powers or vital energy generated by an ikhwan, besides the physical training, are only possible with divine assistance (from Allah).

The other objectives of Al-Maunah are as follows:-

    1. to promote positive relationship and build a sense of brotherhood among all Muslims and mankind;
    2. to gain the respect for Islamic martial art in the region and the world;
    3. to carry out voluntary and welfare work and to assist fellow mankind where possible;
    4. to maintain self dignity and to uphold the respect of the Malay people and Islamic religion; and
    5. to protect one’s property, his family especially and the society in general.

Training

The martial art training in Al-Ma’unah concentrates on basic callisthenics (physical exercise) and breathing techniques. With correct exercise and proper breathing techniques, one will be able to energise the internal vital force, which is previously dormant in our body.

In the syllabus, a member needs to train continuously everyday for the first 3 months from the date he commences training in order to activate the internal energy. Besides the physical and breathing exercises, a member must also improve himself spiritually. He must adhere to the five pillars of Islam (consisting of confession of faith, prayers, fasting, the payment oh tithes and the haj). He must perform the five obligatory prayer everyday. He is also required to pray and chants the "zikr", normally on the glory of Allah (Asma’ul Husna) everyday, particularly after the "Ishak" or night prayers.

In other words, the students or exponents of this martial art are trained to observe strictly to Islamic teaching and Allah’s commandments as stated in the holy Quran.

Inner Power of Al-Ma’unah

The martial art taught in Al-Ma’unah is neither silat nor any normal physical art of self-defence in that sense. It has some similar silat movements but in addition, the ikhwan is able to produce invisible strength. As the source of strength is from the greatness of Allah, the Al-Ma’unah inner power can only be obtained from one’s own total belief and submission to Allah. The invisible force or power generated from an ikhwan for example is able to throw back an opponent (the attacker) from a distance and rendering him helpless. Therefore, it is a must for ikhwans to say the Asma’ul Husna in all the movements made.

Physically, the power generated is centred at a point 2 inches (approximately 2 fingers) below the navel. It is a strange vital power, which appears unexpectedly from an unknown source but as Muslims, we believe that it is from Allah as explained earlier in the meaning of Al-Ma’unah itself.

The vital inner power can only be generated from the reaction of the backbone (sulbi) which is surrounded by the invisible energy. In most people, such energy is still dormant. In this martial art, the Head Master will activate the energy for the new member on acceptation of membership. Once the energy has been activated, the physical training, breathing techniques and spiritual development will enable the ikhwan to produce and generate the inner power when the need arises.

The Usage of the Inner Power

Among the benefit of Al-Ma’unah Inner Power can be listed as follows:

The list above is not exhaustive and in order to know more, one has to be involved in the martial art by becoming a member or ikhwan.
