Who Am I?

Hi everyone! Like everyone else, I decided to start a new webpage. I say "new" because I have a couple others going right now but they are on different subjects. Anyways, the goal of this webpage is to tell you about myself and also to track my weight loss.

I've been fat ALL MY LIFE. I was a "pudgy" kid and a "fat" teen. It has been hell living as a fat person. When I was 14 years old, I weighed 242 pounds. When I graduated high school, I weighed close to 300 pounds. By the time I was 19 years old, I weighed 342 pounds which was my all time highest weight.

Some people say they would rather be dead then fat. At times in my life, I wished death. Not anymore, thankfully. I have battled years of depression, low self esteem and extremely low self confidence. I sometimes wondered why I was cursed as a fat person but I will never know.

In 1992, I had a Vertical Banded Gastroplasty with a silastic ring. It's sometimes known as a VBG. I weighed 342 pounds at the time and I was desperate!!!! I didn't do much research on weight loss surgeries and I thought this was the answer. Unfortunetly, I was wrong. I picked a bad surgeon and I had the wrong type of weight loss surgery. I did lose 100 pounds but I began to have complications. My surgeon put the silastic ring in too small and when adhesions began to form around the ring, I could barely eat or even drink anything. I survived on an ice cream and chocolate diet until 1995, when I finally had the surgery revearsed.

In April of this year (1998), I went in for a Distal Gastric Bypass with a Duodenal Switch. I knew I was risking a lot since I had already had the VBG in 1992 and the reversal in 1995. But, once again, I was desperate. I weighed 302 pounds and my knee was giving out under all the weight. The difference this time was I did my research. I picked out an awesome surgeon (Dr. Rabkin) and picked out the right surgery for me. I have not regretted this surgery for one day.

At this very moment, I have lost 61 pounds. I am getting ready to start law school and it's nice to know I'll be doing it much lighter. I am going to track my weight loss and hopefully have some weight loss pictures as I go along.

UPDATE- 12-19-98 I now weigh 187 pounds and I'm loving life. I've had some small problems dealing with hair loss and bruising but they are minor in comparison to the joy of being thinner. I sometimes forget to take my vitamins so these problems are my own fault and are really stupid of me considering I had a distal bypass. I will commit to taking my vitamins from this moment on! hehe. The picture below is me at my absolute heaviest, 342 pounds and a current picture of me weighing 187 pounds.

UPDATE 2-22-99 I now weigh 166 pounds and the closer I get to goal (my goal was 155 pounds), the more weight I want to lose. I think I would like to weigh 140 pounds now. I'm really happy with the way I look I just want to be a "normal" weight and not be considered overweight at all. So, I think I'm going to strive for 140 pounds which my doctor says is a perfectly healthy weight for me. Below my pic, I will have a link to more recent pics as I get them and an update on my weight loss!

Ok, here I am at 175 pounds
