Here's what driving to the supermarket would be like if an operatingsystem ran your car...

MS-DOS--You get into the car and try to remember where you put the keys.

Windows--You get in the car and drive to the supermarket very slowly because, attached to the back, is a freight train.

Mac System 7--You get into the car and the car, all by itself, drives you to church.

Unix--You get in the car and type "grep supermarket". After reaching speeds of up to 200 miles an hour you arrive at the barber's shop.

Windows NT--You get in the car and write a letter that says "Go to the supermarket". Then you get out of the car, place the letter on the dashboard and wait for something to happen. But all the car does is blow its own horn.

OS/2--After fuelling up with 6000 gallons of high-test gas, you get in the car and go to the supermarket with a motorcycle escort. Half-way there the car blows up, killing everyone in town.
