Letter To A Terrorist

Dear Cowards,

On September 11, 2001 at approximately 8:45am Eastern Time I was sitting at my computer when a special news flash came on the television. My attention was drawn immediately to the horrific "accident" that just happened in New York City. Tears streamed down my face as my heart and prayers went out to all those people aboard the plane and in the building.

Within minutes another plane crashed into the second tower of the World Trade Center. It was then apparent to millions of Americans that this was no "accident" but a deliberate act of terrorism perpetrated by you, a faceless coward. I sat watching in shock and horror as minute by minute the carnage worsened.

When the attack was finally over thousands of Innocent Americans were missing (the exact number killed will not be known for days), an American landmark was gone (twin towers of The World Trade Center each 110 stories tall), plus another building, 4 commercial airplanes hijacked and crashed killing all aboard, and an American institution on fire with extensive damage and many casualties (The Pentagon).

Did you surprise us?....Yes. Did you hurt us?....Yes. Did you make us afraid?....For a while. Will we bow to your cowardly terrorist attack?....Hardly! You may think this barbaric attack on our Freedom and Democracy has frightened us and made a point...........you only fool yourselves.

The things you did accomplish were to unite a divided congress, bring a nation closer to God and Country, and strengthen our spirit and resolve to remain a free and democratic society. For that "We The People,Of The United States Of America," Thank You.

"The deliberate and deadly attacks which were carried out yesterday against our country were more than acts of terror. They were acts of war," said President Bush. Make no mistake, we will find you and you will be brought to justice. It may not be tomorrow but it will be. You assume because we enjoy the fruits of a free and democratic society that we are weak and will not come looking for you. But, you are dead wrong. We will come and we will continue to hunt you down until the day you die. And finally in the words of Senator John McCain, "I say to our enemies, we are coming. God may show you mercy. We will not."

* FOOTNOTE* As of 2005, 2,992 people were presumed dead as a result of all four September 11 attacks. This includes the casualties at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, on the airplanes and the hijackers.

Planes 265 people killed on four planes; 232 passengers, 25 flight attendants, 8 pilots. (Note that this total includes the 19 hijackers, who reportedly boarded the planes as passengers.
