Year 2000 Anstead Family Reunion!

It's time to start making plans to attend the

Year 2000 Anstead Family Reunion!

This year, the reunion will be held in Berkeley Springs, WV the weekend of August 18-19, 2000. For those of you who remember, this is the same location we used in 1998. Faye, Margaret, Roy and Leo will host the reunion! Many thanks to all of them for their willingness to volunteer!

The following provides you some information about Berkeley Springs and it's surroundings:

http://www.wvparks.com/cacapon/

Cacapon Resort State Park (about 9 miles outside of town) has many great features to keep most everyone busy all weekend, while at the same time being close enough to town for those who prefer the comforts of shopping and sightseeing. Cacapon Resort State Park is a 6,000-acre retreat offering a wide range of recreational activities. Twenty-seven miles of leisure-to-challenging hiking and bridle trails pass through forests to scenic vistas atop Cacapon Mountain. Take a guide ride on horseback through the park. Guests may swim, fish for bass and trout and rent row and paddleboats at Cacapon Lake. Various games including tennis and volleyball are available. Guests can participate in the park's year-round nature and recreation program through guided hikes, slide shows, movies and craft workshops. The golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, has been rated as one of the 130 best-designed courses in the country.

The Town of Berkeley Springs Berkeley Springs, West Virginia offers many places to visit. The town began as a spa. Visitors can receive all types of spa treatments, including massages and trips to the Roman Baths. In recent years, numerous craft and antique shops have sprouted up in town. One could easily spend hours looking at all they have to offer. One of the most fascinating features of the town, in my opinion, is the Berkeley Springs Castle. Yes, that’s right, a castle right in the middle of Berkeley Springs! Though it may not rival the castles of Europe, it is still a site to see -- built in to the mountain overlooking the town. Legend tells that the castle was built by a young man to show his love towards his intended bride. In the evening, you may want to visit the Star Theater, http://www.berkeleysprings.com/star/ one of the few remaining old-time design movie houses on the East Coast. The Star shows recent releases.

Where Do I Stay?

To be closest to most activities, everyone should try to stay at Cacapon Resort State Park. Guests can use most Park facilities at no charge and participate in the Park Naturalist program (including day and night nature hikes and craft workshops). Those staying at the lodge will be within walking distance to golf, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, tennis, volleyball, playgrounds, boating, and fishing.

Each of the 50 lodge rooms in the air-conditioned facility has a TV, phone and bath with combination tub/shower. The Lodge has a nice restaurant with reasonable prices and very friendly staff, a game room for the kids (video games, billiards, table-tennis, and shuffleboard), and a large, comfortable gathering room with sofas and tables for board games, cards, and puzzles.

Lodge rooms are about $60 per night, but be sure to ask for your Senior Citizen Discount if you qualify! Also available are 30 cabins, all completely furnished for housekeeping. Cabins must be reserved for a minimum of one week during the summer.

Rooms at the lodge go quickly, so it’s important to make your reservations now. If you want to stay at the park, you must call immediately. Remember that this is a summer resort and rooms go quickly!
