The Apollo 13 mission came close to being a tragedy when an oxygen tank explosion put the lives of the crew, James Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert, in danger. Apollo 13 was scheduled to be the third manned landing on the Moon, but the landing was aborted due to the explosion. The Fra Mauro landing site had to be reassigned to Apollo 14. Apollo 13 is called a "successful failure" because the crew was returned safely to the Earth, thanks to quick thinking and hard work by the astronauts and by the members of Mission Control in Houston. With the exception of the Apollo 11 landing on the Moon, Apollo 13 is probably the most famous space mission of the Apollo Program, if not the space program itself. This website is deticated to the failure, and success, of Apollo 13.
