Suburbia...

Richmond, B.C.
Richmond is Vancouver's suburb to the south, near the airport. Like Surrey below, not much siteseeing there except for the Steveston Historic Fishing Village in south Richmond. Here's some trivia: Richmond was incorporated as a municipality on November 10th 1879, and designated a City on December 3rd, 1990.

Surrey, B.C.
If in the Vancouver area, you might not want to visit Surrey, since it's mainly a bedroom community of Vancouver. Not much siteseeing there. But Surrey is the largest city in BC's Lower Mainland, second largest in population after Vancouver.

Burnaby, B.C.
Burnaby is Vancouver's suburb to the east. Like Surrey and Richmond, not much siteseeing there. except for the Steveston Historic Fishing Village in south Richmond. Here's some trivia: Burnaby is the hometown of Michael J. Fox. The population is over 180,000. While Burnaby has traditionally been a suburban, bedroom community to Vancouver's urban centre, it is now considered a city in its own right. BCIT and Simon Fraser University are located in Burnaby.

North Vancouver, B.C.
North Vancouver is a city and district located on the north side of Burrard Inlet, east of West Vancouver. Grouse Mountain and other tourist sites are situated here.

North Vancouver, B.C.
West Vancouver is a district located on the north side of Burrard Inlet, west of North Vancouver. Cypress and other tourist sites are situated here.

New Westminster, B.C.
If in the Vancouver area, you might want to visit New Westminster, British Columbia's historic capital. Actor Raymond Burr was born in what is today a modest Vancouver suburb.

Tourism New Westminster
Good site for information about the sites of New Westminster.

Delta, B.C.
The Corporation of Delta is south of Richmond. The Ferries to Victoria on Vancouver Island can be found in Tsawwassen, among the communities of Delta.

Port Moody, B.C.
Port Moody is a city located north of Burnaby. Nice views.

Coquitlam, B.C.
Coquitlam is a city located east of Burnaby. Drive through if you like, but it's really just a "bedroom" community for Vancouver commuters.

Port Coquitlam, B.C.
Port Coquitlam is a city located east of Coquitlam and Burnaby. You'll need a car to get there, though there's very little to see except for the most discerning tourist.

Educational links...

The University of British Columbia
My alma mater. A great place to study! (But a hard place to find free parking!)

British Columbia Institute of Technology
Another great place to study, especially at the new downtown campus!

Simon Fraser University
Fine place to study if you don't mind climbing a hill! (Not so easy to do when snow falls in winter.) Very difficult to find parking if an undergrad, unless you win the lottery for a parking pass. Much easier to get a parking pass if you're a grad student.

Langara College
A great comprehensive junior college in Vancouver.

Thompson Rivers University
Formerly the "Open University of British Columbia" and now a part of Canada's newest university, Thompson Rivers, there are very convenient study opportunities available for distance students.

Vancouver Film School
Since Vancouver has a strong reputation in the entertainment field (many movies and T.V. series are filmed here), it is only natural that a private post-secondary school would be established to serve this growing industry. Vancouver Film School offers programs & courses in Film, 3D Computer & Classical Animation, Digital Effects, Maya, Digital Video, New Media, DVD, Writing and Acting for Film & Television.

Why not drop by the stadium where the BC Lions play? B.C. Place is an amazing building. It's the biggest air-supported domed stadium in the world. More than 60,000 people can stay warm and dry while watching their favorite events. The only thing separating them from the outside weather is the thin fibreglass and Teflon roof. As BC Place proudly says, "It's like walking under a fabric sky -- one that's only 1/30 inch thick but stronger than steel." It opened in 1983. There's a link to Ticketmast to buy tickets.
