A Chagall Opera Ceiling Project for Kids

Explore the beautiful opera ceiling found at the Opera House in 
Paris, and then follow the directions for creating your own ceiling
paintings facsimile.

CROSS CURRICULUM

Romeo and Juliet Ceiling at the 
Paris Opera House

Materials Needed

Balloon
Paper Mache Mixture
Gold Paint 
Various Paints & Brushes
Plaster of Paris

Instructions

Cover and entire balloon in paper mache mixture and let dry.
Cut the balloon in half, cover with plaster of paris mixture on 
the outside of the half sphere and the inside.  Paint and embellish
the outside of the “opera house” with gold paint and cording.  Paint 
the underside in the style of Chagall’s Romeo and Juliet ceiling.
