If you are interested in becoming a H.O.G. Chapter Member, contact Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G., 15th Annual Anniversary Party on September 17th is going to be great, so be sure to join us. We will have a DJ, Riding Activities such as the Slow Race for Men and Women, Balloon Toss or Bike Wash, and Balls/Cones.
Tommye Sigerfoos L.O.H. Officer is having a Dessert Contest. Everyone who bring a dessert and you will automatically be entered. Everyone is also asked to bring a side dish. We will chicken, hamburgers, and hotdogs. We could use some help if anyone would like to come early to help set up.
Nominations and elections for the 2001 Officers will be done a little differently this year. We will start taking nominations at the Chapter meeting on September 14th. (September meeting is moved up due to the State Rally.) We will take nominations through October 26th (October regular meeting moved up due to Biketoberfest in Daytona). The names will then be published in the November HOGWASH. The election will be held at the November 10th meeting.
In November we will award the winners of the Ride and Meeting Attendance Contests, so be sure to keep joining us on the rides and at the meetings.
Reminder, I will be leading a Chapter Ride to the State Rally on Thursday, September 2 1 and return on Sunday, September 24th. We will meet at Atlanta-Harley Davidson of Atlanta at 10 AM on Thursday and take a scenic back road route to Columbus. I know the State Rally will have lots of things for everyone.

Let's ride and have FUN!!
Tommye Singerfoos
Ladies of Harley Officer,
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.
I'm sure each of you who made the Sturgis trip have many pictures and stories to show and tell us who were not able to goof off for 2 weeks in South Dakota. All I've heard is good and safe reports from everyone.
We have many Chapter H.O.G. Rides coming up in the next couple months, so I have been asked by several new members to share some information regarding "Group Riding". First and foremost is the fact that "drinking and driving" never mix. This is especially true when participating in a group ride.
Always ride in the staggered formation. This gives you an extra margin of room for safety. A group of motorcycles is not considered a single vehicle. Be courteous and allow cars to enter and exit the highway and change lanes. Generally speaking, a car will not want to ride in the middle of a group of motorcycles and will get out of the group as quickly as possible. Arrive to participate in a group ride with a full tank of gas and a safe motorcycle.
I have also been asked to explain the terms "staggered formation" and "single file". The hand sign for staggered formation is the left hand over head with two fingers up while rotating either the hand or the two fingers. The motorcycles are arranged with the lead motorcycle in the left 1/2 of the lane, the second motorcycle should be in the right 1/2 of the same lane, one second behind the lead motorcycle and so on, alternating from the left 1/2 to the right 1/2 of the lane. This would allow 2 seconds between you and the motorcycle directly in front of you. Always leave enough room between each motorcycle so that any rider can maneuver to the right or left without hitting any one else. Always try to stay in line with the bike in front of you. Do not switch between the left 1/2 and right 1/2 of the lane. Always try not to drive in the middle of a lane. This is the darker spot of the lane which accumulates the leaking oil, transmission fluid, rear end dope, etc from the four wheelers. The hand sign for single file is the left hand over head with one finger up with hand still. The motorcycles are arranged in a single line with 2 seconds between one another. We always look forward to having new members ride with us.
Harley-Davidson of Atlanta Rental Program
By the time you receive this newsletter our new Harley-Davidson Rental program should be up and running. We have 13 different Harley-Davidson motorcycles to rent for the day, weekend, week, or month. Our rental program is designed for motorcycle riders who are at least 25 years old, have a valid motorcycle driving license, and a major credit card. Unlike the Harley-Davidson Fly & Ride Program, you do not have to be a H.O.G. member to rent these Harley-Davidsons. If you, any of your friends, or riding buddies want to rent a 2000 model Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, call David Gilmer at the Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at (770) 944-1340.
HARLEY-DAVIDSON RIDERS EDGE MOTORCYCLE SAFETY FOUNDATION TRAINING will be coming soon to Harley-Davidson of Atlanta.
"Ride your Harley 'safely' and you will ride your Harley 'longer'".

This is the 15th anniversary of Atlanta Chapter H.O.G. and we are having a party on September 17th. The field events will include the weenie bite, balloon toss, slow race and more. The party is free for members to Atlanta Chapter members and is $10.00 for their guests. It is an open event, so bring a friend and join in the celebration.
Participation Contest

Don't forget about these two contests. There is still about 4 months left until we know who the winners will be. You can't win if you don't ride and come to the meetings (PARTICIPATE!).

Cheah State Park, Alabama
This year our Chapter Lunch Ride to the top of Cheaha Mountain in Alabama, on Sunday, October 1, 2000. We will meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 9:30 AM for a safety and ride briefing and depart promptly at 10:00 AM. I will have to call ahead before we leave that morning with a person count for our lunch reservations. We will again ride all back roads to the State Park where we will have our lunch buffet atop Cheaha Mountain in their restaurant. After lunch, we will ride down the backside of the park into Lineville, Alabama and continue on back roads into Georgia toward Harley-Davidson of Atlanta. We will have gas and rest stops to accommodate any Sportsters in our group. Total miles should be approximately 200 miles. Since we are going to the top of a mountain, needless to say we will be on some mountain roads with curves. If you have any doubts or questions about this ride, please feel free to give me a call.
