DIRECTOR'S REPORT

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself for those of you who are new to the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. or don't participate much. First, I would like to thank Dan and his Directory's for a great year ... Good Job. I am B.K. Ellis. I have been riding motorcycles for some 30 plus years. I retired from the General Services Administration in 1994 where I worked as a Computer Programmer Analyst.

I am a Life Member of the National, Harley Owners group and I have three Harleys at this time, including a 1983 Low Ride. I rode my Harley to Sturgis Rally in 1999 and in 2000 to Dayton Bike Week, Myrtle Beach Rally, Sturgis Rally and Biketoberfest

I started the Atlanta Chapter H.O.G. in 1985 for Eddie (Harley-Davidson of Atlanta). Our first ride was to the Harley-Davidson Test Facility at Talladega Speedway in Alabama. I served as Director from 1985 to 1990, so I am not a novice at this and know how much fun and work is involved. Back then, the Atlanta Chapter, H. 0. G. was the first H.0.G. and only H.O.G. Chapter in town, so we had great participation and support from the Harley owners around town.

I think we have a great Board of Directors this year and I am looking forward to working and riding with them and "you". We still could use help with a Safety Officer and Activity Director positions. So if you would like to help us out, just let me know. No ballot counting will be involved, unless you are from Florida.

Ride Safe,

B.K. Ellis
Director,
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT

I hope the holidays lived up to your expectations. I will try and maintain the level of intensity towards improving the membership participation that the previous year obtained. We, as a group of folks who ride Harley-Davidsons because of brand loyalty and the joy of riding have no other motives.

The only competition we as riders have is being able to find the time to ride as a group.

I've been asked to give you some personal information, so here it goes. I retired from the US Navy in February, 1989. Earned my Engineering degree from the College at Sea Program in 1985. Employed by Ingersoll-Rand till 1998 and have been a Consulting Engineer P.E. since.

I've been riding since 9 on a shared Harley-Davidson Sprint. Taught the Rider Safety Course for the Navy at NOB, Norfolk, VA. I resumed my active participation with H.O.G. in 1997 with the Atlanta Chapter and have enjoyed the company of these good folks since then.

RIDE SAFE AND LONG!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dick Cadou
Assistant Director,
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.

SECRETARY/TREASURER'S REPORT

Hi everyone, it's that time again, new officers. I'm Rene' Durham your Secretary/Treasurer. I have worked at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta for 11 years. Started answering the phone to make extra money to go to Sturgis Rally. When Jim and I got back Eddie asked me to stay. So all the fun began. Got tired of answering the phone so I started to help (Ha!) and the guys at the parts counter. I finally learned what all the stuff was that Jimmy always sent me to pick up when he was building bikes. I loved working the parts counter. Then they found out that I could type, so I started helping in the office and it's been up hill ever since.

I started riding 11 years ago. I have an 85 wide glide that Jim customized for me. If I'm not on my bike, I'll be on anything that might be available at the shop. I have been the secretary/treasurer for the Atlanta Chapter for about 7 years and have been on all the State Rally committees. If you need any info about H.O.G., just give me a call at the shop.

Everyone be safe.

Rene' Durham

Ride Director's Report

I am Steve Johnson, your Ride Director for the year 2001. A lot of folks call me "Rhino" I don't really know why, but they have for many years now, and I do answer to that. I'm 53 years old, grew up in Red Oak, Georgia, wore out about a dozen bicycles, before joining the Marines in '65, spent '66 and '67 in Nam, got out in '68, when I began work with Delta, over 32 years ago.

I began riding with my Dad on his '47 Indian Chief when I was but a baby, sitting on the gas tanks in front of him. I did my first solo act on a dirt bike in the early '60s, bought my first street bike in '68, it was a '67 Triumph Bonneville. Then in '79 I bought a new FLH Electra Glide in Blue, then my next was a new, 95 FLSTC, which I still have, and then my lovely wife Sharon, for Fathers Day, gave me a '96 FLHTCUI, which we both enjoyed very much, and now we have a new 2000 FLHTCUI, which we hope to enjoy just as much and hopefully more...but I have loved every one of them. Sharon bought herself a 2000 XLH, but so far only our son Brandon has ridden it.

We have four sons and a daughter, Butch, Anna Marie, Jesse, Brandon, and Jay from 15 to 30 years old...WHEW!, no wonder I've lost my hair. Sharon and I both love being active in Atlanta Chapter, going on rides, meeting new people and being with old friends. We hope we can help make this a safe and fun year of riding for all. We are currently trying to put together a schedule of rides for the year. If you have any place you'd like to ride or if you have a preference as to a day of the week to have a ride, please let us know so we can try to work it into the schedule. There will be lunch rides, dinner rides, and overnight rides, weekday and weekend rides so everyone should be able to ride sometime.

Ride today like you want be able to ride tomorrow!

Please Ride Responsible,

Steve Johnson
Ride Director,
Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G.

LADIES OF HARLEY REPORT

Hi, and a big warm welcome to all you Ladies Of Harley out there! (and to you guys too of course!) I'm Patty Toney, your new L.O.H. Officer for the year 2001. My husband Fred and I each own our own Harley. Fred has a '96 Deluxe ElectraGlide and I have a '98 Dyna Wide Glide. I rode on the back with Fred for 2 months before I got my own bike. I just had to have my own. I got interested in L.O.H. because I wanted to meet other women who rode Harleys. I never knew how many I would meet that actually rode their "own bikes". They really inspired me when it came to getting my bike. These are the same ladies (Tommye and Judy especially) who have given me and continue to give me confidence and knowledge when it comes to riding solo. No, I am not there yet. I plan on working on that some more in the Spring. As the L.O.H. tell me, "take your time", and that is what I am doing.

So, whether you ride solo or relax on the back, you're still a member of The Ladies Of Harley. Our purpose is to help give women an active voice in H.O.G. With the help of all our L.O.H. members and all the new ones to come, we can keep our voice heard. When I first joined the Atlanta Chapter, I had all sorts of questions about L.O.H. and how to join, just ask Ginger. So for any new ladies out there, here are the requirements to join L.O.H. Ladies of Harley (L.O.H.) a program sponsored by the Harley Owners Group to support women motorcycle enthusiasts (both drivers and passengers). It is not a separate organization within H.O.G., but was established to encourage women to become more active in H.O.G. and their local chapters. Ladies of Harley membership allows you to participate in all the L.O.H. activities at various H.O.G. rallies and events. These may include workshops, seminars, photos, and other special events. When you register for L.O.H., you will receive an embroidered patch and a pin. Each time you renew, you will receive a pin indicating the year of membership. You will be identified as a registered L.O.H. member by having the letters L.O.H. on your H.O.G. card. The only requirement for membership is that you must be a member of the Harley Owners Group. To join, call: 1-800-CLUB HOG.

I hope that all you experienced ladies (you know who you are) and all you not so experienced ladies (yes, we know who we are), can get together, learn from one another, and have a lot of fun on the way. So with all this said, I have a lot of ideas and plans for the upcoming year, Keep the dust off your gear, get ready to leather up, zip up, buckle up, and gas up! Come on and ride with us...I CAN'T WAIT!

Email me anytime with your suggestions, questions, and comments: greenangel6775@hotmail.com (before you ask about greenangel, it's a Girl Scout thing. Yeah, I'm very active in this too). Let me know how I am doing.

Catch ya later, see ya.

Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. on Yahoo!

Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. has a "Club Address" on Yahoo at the following URL: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/atlantachapterhog

Please, check it out! You will be able to chat with other Atlanta Chapter Members. You will have to register to sign on to chat, load pictures and post messages. When you register, please give us you name, city and email address. That way other members will recognize your name and be able to email you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. You will also be able to check out other Harley related clubs around the world. If you have problems, email me and I will try and help.

Jim Keely keeps the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date.

This does not replace our HOGWASH Web Page, www.atlantahog.comor the HOGWASH Newsletter, just another e-service of the Atlanta Chapter.

Road Trip(s)

Tommy Tyner Memorial Ride

This will be first ride for the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. for year 2001 and is starting off nontraditional. As in years past, we have ridden to Buckners for lunch. Well, this year New Years Day falls on a Monday and Buckners is always closed on Monday. They said it did not matter that it was New Years Day, "they were closed". So, we had to start looking for another place that would accommodate anywhere from 50 to 150 people depending on the weather that day. The best thing that we could come up with is the Western Sizzlin in Griffin., I know it is not Buckners, but at least it will be all the food you care to eat. I know Lee will be glad of that. We will meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 10:00 AM and leave at 10:30 AM. We will do a back road ride, so we will not be stopping to pick up the south side riders at the BP station in Forest Park as in years past. If you do not want to ride to Harley-Davidson of Atlanta, just meet us in Griffin. We should be there between 11:30 and noon.

Hope to see everyone there kicking off the New Year with a great turnout. If the weather is bad, come in the vehicle of your choice.

B.K. Ellis
Ride Leader

Been There Done That

Christian City Toy Ride

Last Sunday's weather was not very cooperative for riding to the Christian City Children's home, but that did not deter 4 brave souls who bundled up and came out for the ride on motorcycles. It was 36 and drizzling. Jerry Flynn and Patrick Abraham led the ride on their bikes. The rest of us followed in our cars. As we exited I-85, the Union City exit, Gary Swicegood and Gay Green were waiting to join us on his police special.

As we arrived at Christian City, the children were called up to see the bikes and have their pictures made sitting on them. It was fun to see their eyes light up as we unloaded all the packages into the storage room. We socialized with them for about 20 minutes and were invited into the Chapel by Pam Hopson. There we were informed of all the different sponsorship programs available to help these kids and had all of our questions answered. Pam told us how much our support as a Chapter has blessed them tremendously.

As we were leaving the home, someone suggested heading over to the Cracker Barrel across highway for dessert and coffee. Anything warm sounded great at this point. We had a great time just sitting, talking and stuffing ourselves with apple dumplings, chocolate Coca-Cola cake and peach cobbler. All a la mode of course. We had a really nice time regardless of the weather.

I'd like to thank all of you who took time out of your busy holiday schedules to drop toys, gift certificates and clothing items off at the shop for the kids. Most of all thanks to those who rode their bikes out for the kids to see. It really made it special for them.

Have a great New Year!
