DIRECTOR'S REPORT
TAKING IT TO THE MAX
Tommye and I are in the throes of packing up in preparation for the move to our new home near Blue Ridge. While packing up the family room, I ran across all the motorcycle photo albums we organized last year; soon I was sidetracked (probably a
"guy" thing) looking at them, recalling past trips and experiences. But it also got me thinking about those things I still want to do and places I still want to see, all on my Harley, of course.
How about you? Do you have any specific goals for this year? Next year? Five years from now? Where do you see yourself going in terms of your current experience level and the adventures you have taken? As the Harley credo says, "having a Harley is about doing, not merely owning." Although many a good time has been had on a spontaneous or impromptu basis, most times it takes a bit of forethought, planning and commitment to get the most out of your Harley experience.
Could your goal be to become a better technical rider, or perhaps it is finally time to take that long dreamt of Odyssey to wherever? Or maybe it's time to try some new terrain to stretch your skills a bit or to begin riding in larger groups?
Whatever your goals are, National H.O.G., the Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. and Harley-Davidson of Atlanta have the equipment, personnel and organization to help you get there. There are a ton of resources available, ranging from rider
training, to motorcycle shipping and travel planning, to just a lot of "locals" in your home chapter who, collectively, have probably done it all at least once. So think about your dreams and goals, and challenge yourself a bit to find new skills and adventures. Let your Harley experience be all it can be -- don't be content to sit on the sidelines and let this be a limited
time of your life. This is a time to build memories so that later on your reminiscing won't be filled with "I wish I hads" or "I should haves."

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT
First let me say congratulations to the winner of the 100th Anniversary Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, Stewart
Nunn of Dallas, Georgia. Out of the last five ticket holders, only three were present and Stewart was the one of them. The suspense really mounted as one by one the tickets were drawn. There were no attempted buy outs though and Stewart was left to sweat it out by himself. Hope to see Stewart riding with us soon. He already owns a Harley and said he would give that one to his wife.
We already have tickets for sale for our new drawing. This time it will be a 2004 Harley-Davidson FLSTF Fat Boy with Custom Paint. Again, we will sell 400 tickets at $100 each. A date has not been set for the drawing. I'm sure it will not be too far in the distant future since we sold 40 tickets the night of the last raffle drawing. That just leaves 360 tickets to sell. So get by the shop and get your ticket, and pick up several to sell to your friends.
H.O.G. 20TH ANNIVERSARY
Did you know at the same time that Harley-Davidson is celebrating the 100th Anniversary in Milwaukee, H.O.G. will be celebrating it's 20th Anniversary with the 20th Annual H.O.G. Rally atWashington County Fair Park on August 27-30, 2003? If you are not going to this momentous celebration, you can order a H.O.G. 20th Anniversary pin and Milwaukee Open House pin in advance. For just $7.95 shipping and handling, they will send you both pins. Just call toll free 800-510-2596, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Central Time) by August 1, 2003. If you are going, this would save you the time of waiting in line to pick them up on site. Hope to see you there!

2004 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FAT BOY
Tickets are on sale for our next raffle, a 2004 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy with custom paint. If you are willing to sell tickets, come by shop and check some out. We will be selling 400 tickets for $100 each. The drawing date to be announced.
CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP CARDS
I have made an attempt to mail chapter membership cards, but it's too time consuming. So if you do not have your chapter card, please come by the shop to pick them up. Remember, you must show your chapter card when you go on a chapter
ride.
GEORGIA STATE H.O.G. RALLY
October 30 - November 1, 2003
I hope everyone has made his or her plans to go to the Georgia State Rally in beautiful Savannah. I have blocked rooms at the Holiday Inn Express. Call (912) 925-2700 and ask for Robin. If they are all gone, come by the shop for a list of hotels or go to www.gastatehogrally.com. If you register on or before July 4, 2003 you will earn one extra point that goes toward the chapter challenge. The chapter challenge is a collective number of points from winning field events, bike show, poker run, etc. You must participate to win. It's not just the number of members you have! Participate and have fun! Hope to see you there.

LADIES OF HARLEY'S REPORT
We had our May LOH dinner at O'Charley's in Hiram. Even though there were only 6 of us, we had a great time. The next dinner will be on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Frank's Family Restaurant, 1188 Collinsworth Road in Palmetto (770-463-5678). If you want to ride to dinner, meet at the dealership at 6:00 p.m. . If not, we'll see you at Frank's at 7:30 p.m.
Bike Wash
Ladies of Harley is having a Bike Wash on June 7th from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. Bring those dirty bikes over to the dealership and the ladies will give them a good wash and dry. It's only $10 and all proceeds benefit Share House. Burgers, dogs and soda will be served while you wait.
Final Call for Biloxi - June 27-29, 2003
Our block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express Biloxi (Beachside) expired on May 27, 2003. However, (and I can't guarantee this) you might be able to get our discounted rate ($99.00 per night) by calling 1-800-468-2102 and asking for the rooms under code "HAR" or Atlanta Harley. As of the writing of this article, 25 rooms had been booked.
There will be two meeting places to begin the ride. The first group will meet at HDA at 7:00 a.m. and leave at 7:30 a.m. SHARP to meet the second group. The second group will meet in Carrollton at the Speedway on Hwy 61 at 8:00 a.m. Total mileage for this ride is approximately 420 miles. If all goes as planned, we should arrive in Biloxi around 4:00 p.m. (Central Time).
On Saturday, the Mississippi Coast Chapter will lead us on a ride, then take us to their dealership for a BBQ. Details for this will be in your pre-ride packet.
Also, there are some of us who are staying over into Monday so that we can take a day trip to New Orleans. If you are interested, please be sure to extend your hotel reservation to include Sunday night (the rate for Sunday night is $84.00).
IT'S HULA TIME!!!
Aloha!! Come on everybody, let's limbo! Or better yet hula anyone? What you're out of practice? Well, get out your Hawaiian clothes and start practicing cause we're havin' a luau. That's right our next Chapter Social we'll be throwin' a
LUAU, complete with a roasted pig and all the trimmings. So start practicing your back bends and hip sways so you'll be ready for all the fun and games. The party begins at 6:00 p.m. on July 12th. Watch your Hog Wash for more details!
We need volunteers to help plan and put the luau together. If you are interested in volunteering with this project, please either email Terri Felton at hoggette@attbi.com or call her at (770) 943-7716.

HISTORIAN/PHOTOGRAPHER'S REPORT
Four Years Ago This Month June 1999
Jim Durham, our Director has poised this challenge to all members "how many people know what this means, S.I.P.D.E.?"
A new program was initiated at the dealership this month. Chris Houghton and the management personnel will vote to elect an Employee of the Month, to recognize those employees that excel in their jobs. The Employee of the Month is, our very
own, Rene' Durham. Here's what was said, "Rene' has shown a team spirit and has gone beyond in her work to monitor warranty claims, ordering, and receiving inventory, tag and titles and still manages the H.O.G. Chapter. Rene' has always been very helpful with promotions or events at the dealership." Congratulations!
The June events were a ride to Macon to see the Braves play, a lunch ride to Mentone, AL and a lunch ride to Helen GA.

ADVERTISING OFFICER'S REPORT
Advertise in the HOGWASH!!!
Hi everyone! Last month we announced that we are ready to start accepting business and personal advertisements in our monthly HOGWASH! Also in the article it said "see the enclosed rate sheets"...but unfortunately they were not included...as
you well know! I have had many calls and e-mails about the rates and lots of folks interested in placing ads either for their business or personal use.
PLEASE SEE THE ENCLOSED RATE SHEET IN THIS ISSUE!!
Again, what a terrific way to advertise and promote your business and services to almost 1,000 fellow HOG members at a great new low rate! ALSO....IF you are a restaurant advertiser, we will promote at least one chapter social dinner per month at your establishment! Want an inexpensive way to stay in touch with your fellow HOG members on a personal level??? Place a personal ad in the HOGWASH announcing events of your life, thank you's, memorials, birthdays, anniversaries, births, engagements, weddings, graduations, garage sales, pets for sale, boats for sale, houses for sale, condo's for rent or any other event that you wish to share or promote!
PLEASE support your Atlanta Harley HOGWASH with your business and personal advertisements in the next issue! All proceeds go directly back into the chapter!! Please contact Jan Provost at 770-419-9980 or Rene Durham at 770-944-1340 for more details. Thanks in advance for your support!

Please, check it out! You will be able to chat with other Atlanta Chapter Members. You will have to register to sign on to chat, load pictures and post messages. When you register, please give us you "Real Name". That way other members will recognize your name and be able to e-mail you as a member of the Atlanta Chapter and not someone in Kalamazoo. You will also be able to check out other Harley related clubs around the world. If you have problems, e-mail me and I will try and help.
Gary Langmaid will keep the calendar up to date, so there is no need to miss an important event date. Michele Smith is now in charge of the Hot Line. If you have concerns about the status of a ride, PLEASE, call 770-908-3435.

MEET SCOTT VANDIVER, NEW ROAD CAPTAIN
My name is Scott Vandiver. I am 40 years old and have been married to Corolla for 17 years. We live in West Cobb County, where Corolla works as a dental hygienist. I work for Delta Air Lines as an instructor in Non-Destructive Testing.
I am also an NRA Firearms instructor and enjoy scuba diving around the world. My riding experience started when I was about eight years old with a 5-hp minibike riding around our property in Fayetteville where I grew up. Next came a Honda 50 trail bike then a Kawasaki 100 dirt bike. At the age of fifteen I discovered the most puzzling and complicated things in a
teen's life, GIRLS. I traded my dirt bike for a 65 Mustang and stopped riding for about six years before the urge hit again. This time I bought a Yamaha 550 Maxum street bike. I rode it for several years and sold it to help buy our first house. In 1991 I bought a Honda Goldwing Interstate for Corolla and me to cruise around on. Since I bought it used, we did not know about any riding groups and how much fun they are. I sold the Interstate to pay off bills before we bought our new house. In January of 2001 I got the urge to ride again and this time I was bound and determined to get a Harley. I went to several dealerships and Atlanta HD treated me the best. I bought a 2001 black Superglide T-Sport, which is a great bike and handles very well; a good bike for the mountains. Corolla however did not care for the backrest angle and the passenger seat. After we test rode an Ultra Classic at Bike Week, I traded in the T-sport for an Ultra Classic. I really like having cruise control and a stereo, especially on long trips. Last Fall I was asked to be a road captain for this year. Knowing how busy the other officers are, and wanting to keep the enjoyment of group riding going, I decided to help out. It is a great learning experience and I'm glad to help out. If anyone has a suggestion for a ride please let a ride captain know. Some of the best rides (Cloudland Canyon) come from our members.
Scott Vandiver, Road Captain
MEET ED CHOWNING, NEW ROAD CAPTAIN
Hi, my name is Ed Chowning and I am a new Road Captain. I've ridden motorcycles all my life but didn't get my first Harley, a black Fat Boy, until my 45th birthday in 1997. I put 28,000 miles on before getting my current Harley, a 2000
Screaming Eagle, black and orange Road Glide. I've been a H.O.G. member since 1997 and part time with our chapter. I am looking forward to great Spring and Summer riding with the chapter. My ex wife and I shipped the Eagle to Puerto Rico for the 2000 Caribbean H.O.G. Rally, and boy that was high adventure; riding all over Puerto Rico with 100 or so other H.O.G. Members. The latest Hog Tales has an article about the Australian Bushranger Rally, which takes place in November of this year. I'm going! I was able to reserve a Dresser and can't wait to ride and party for two weeks with H.O.G. members from all over the globe. They still have bikes available for rent. Hope that some of you will join me for some definite high adventure.
Ride to Live!

SOUTHERN HIGHROADS TRAIL RIDE DETAILS
If you like curving roads, beautiful hills and mountain scenery, as well as a reprieve from the Atlanta heat and humidity, I
offer you the Southern Highroads Trail. The Southern Highroads Trail is US 76 through northern Georgia and US 64 in western North Carolina. We will also take in the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Cherohala Skyway on this trip.
We're going to do the ride a little differently this year. Some of you who have been on this trip before might recall that most of the waterfalls on Day Two were behind us to our left, so this year we are reversing the route for a better view.
We will leave at Noon on Friday, July 25th, and stop for lunch in Cherry Log, GA at the Pink Pig, only an hour or so up the
road, so come ready to eat!! Then we'll take US 76 across North Georgia into Clayton, and then go north through Dillard to arrive at our destination. Our first night will be in Franklin, NC at the Microtel Inn. Day One's ride is an easy 175 to 180 miles total.
Day Two is from Franklin to Bryson City, NC via Highlands, Cashiers, Sapphire Valley, and by way of a short ride into South Carolina, including SC Hwy. 11 into Brevard, NC where we will stop for lunch. From Brevard we will travel another
22 miles and pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway into Bryson City, NC, where we will stop for the night. Be ready to ride twisties most of the day -- not a long day mileage wise, but lots of handlebar action and most will be tired, but experienced curve riders by day's end!!! Total mileage today is around 200.
Day Three is from Bryson City back home via the Cheoah Dam loop and the Cherohala Skyway, unless we have bad weather. These are two awesome roads that are not to be missed!! The curves are gentle but there are lots of them -- really
enjoyable. This is a 265 mile day and we will stop for lunch at the end of the Cherohala Skyway at Cardin's Landing, which is about the halfway point.
For hotel information and reservations requirements please see the May HOGWASH. Reservations for Bryson City must be booked by June 1stand since this newsletter should be in your hands around May 23rd or so, you still have a bit of time.
WHAT: Southern Highroads Trail Ride
WHEN: July 25-27, 2003 (Fri-Sun)
MEETING PLACE: Chevron Station, Exit 271 on I-75N
MEETING TIME: Friday, July 25th at 11:15am; sign in and safety briefing until 11:45am
DEPARTURE: 11:45 am
RIDE LEADER: Tom Sigerfoos (770) 971-4467
TRAVEL TIP
Ever sworn at the rain as you struggle into your raingear, especially rubber overshoes to protect your boots? If that's the case try this: carry two plastic grocery bags with you and put these on over your boots first -- then something like Totes overshoes slide right on without any hassle!!! Now you can swear at the rain because of the bike detailing that must follow!
