If you receive this newsletter before you leave keep in mind a good meeting place for lunch or dinner. It's called JC's Oyster Deck under the Port Orange Bridge. It's always busy, so around 2 in the afternoon might be a good time to meet up with Chapter members. Rene' and I go there several times during Bike Week. Tables are outside by the Intercostal Waterway. Hope to see you there. I would like to let you know about some changes around Harley-Davidson Atlanta. Maybe you have noticed them. RIDE DIRECTOR'S REPORT Annual Spring Ride TO Charleston, S.C. This year we are going to Charleston, SC on April 16th and returning on April 18th. This should be a great ride with a lot of sightseeing to do and hopefully with some of the hospitality of Charleston's H.O.G Chapter. The ride will be led by the Chapter Sponsors, Eddie and Chris Houghton (Harley-Davidson of Atlanta). Hopefully, Wayne Allen will join us as well. We will meet at Harley-Davidson of Atlanta at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with a full tank of gas. Eddie and Chris will break the ride into two groups. This first group will leave at 9 a.m. sharp. The motel reservations can be made through Allison Mull at 770-486-8232. We will be in two motels close together overlooking the river. Don't delay in making your hotel reservations. Each motel will only hold the block of rooms for a limited time. FIRST CALL, FIRST SERVED! Don't Wait- call Allison at: (770) 486-8232! Ride Safe and Have Fun Dan Gardiner Road Director, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. SECRETARY/TREASURER'S REPORT Let's not forget the Georgia State Rally coming up in September. Mark your calendar for September 9-12. The rally this year will be held at The Exchange Club Fair Grounds in Augusta, Georgia. When you get your registration forms make sure you mark Atlanta Chapter on the form as your chapter. You will only be able to use one this year. Please, if you belong to more than one chapter, the other officers and I would like for Atlanta Chapter to be your choice. Signing up for a chapter is not all you need to do to win the Chapter Challenge. Each name counts as two (2) points; winning bike shows and field events makes for other points. It's not the quantity of members it's the participation and winning that counts. We have won the Chapter Challenge for several years now so let's keep up the good work. Also you will notice that the entry fee has gone up $5.00. Pre-registration is now $30.00. This increase is due to a T-shirt price increase and a B-B-Q dinner for Saturday. I hope everyone understands the price increases and when you go to Augusta everyone will have a great time. ANNUAL HOG RALLY GREENVILLE, SC JULY 15-17, 1999 We have 50 rooms blocked at the Comfort Inn on 412 Mauldin Road. When you call (864) 277-6730 tell them you're with Atlanta Chapter. Rene' Durham Secretary/Treasurer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. LADIES OF HARLEY'S REPORT New Hot-line Number! 770-908-3435 Beginning Monday February 23rd, thanks to the suggestion of our members, we now have a Hot-line for everyone to call for status of our rides and events. The number is 770-908-3435. I will update the message periodically. I will update each time we have an activity or ride planned to remind you of the upcoming events and/or changes that may occur. You can call the number day or night for information. This is a new project to see if it will benefit our members. We have several overnight rides planned so get ready to ride. To prepare for those rides you might want to think about some packing tips. If you roll up your clothes they actually take up less space and are not as wrinkled. Use travel size toiletries. Pack light. You never need as many clothes as you think you will. Please call in and check out the new HOTLINE and also look at our WEB site. We want to know what you think! Ride Safe and Have Fun Ginger Gardiner Ladies of Harley Safety Officer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. SAFETY OFFICER'S REPORT Like a lot of us, my commute to work every morning is long and frustrating. Traveling sometimes over an hour from south-side to Sandy Springs. When I'm feeling particularly brave, I ride my bike, always parking in front of our business so I can keep an eye on it. When folks come in they always inquire who owns the bike out front. When they find out it's mine, the conversation turns to how dangerous riding in metro Atlanta has become and how crazy I am for riding on I-75 in rush hour traffic. This is how I respond. When I'm on the road, FEAR and RESPECT for riding, always keeps me on my toes. I can't tell you how many times some "nut" (for lack of a better word), will cut me off or try to run over me. That's why I use the word, fear. It's something we can all use to our advantage to keep sharp and alert on any road, city or county. So stay alert, watch your mirrors for the "nuts" and yes, FEAR THEM, because they do not RESPECT you! Ride Loud, Ride Proud, See YA! Jimmy H. Stephens Safety Officer, Atlanta Chapter, H.O.G. Jack Cobb, H.O.G. Regional Manager Corning soon to the Atlanta Chapter, Jack Cobb, our Regional Manager, will be at our March meeting. If you have any questions for him, please send them to me at the shop. I will forward them to Jack, so he will be prepared for the meeting. Also, at that meeting we will have dinner, so please bring a covered dish. We will meet at the BP station at Forest Parkway and State Road 85 at 9:00 a.m. We will depart at 9:30 a.m. SHARP! As far as the lunch stop goes, there's not much on the way to Andersonville. It's not that far out of the way and there's an "all you can eat" restaurant that has good ole country cookin' and I mean good! It's in an old converted farm house in Warm Springs. This is not written in stone though. I will have more info on the food portion of the ride during our next chapter meeting and copies of our route. If you have never been to Andersonville, it's really something to see.
