    Bisquits
    2 cups self rising flour
    1/4 cup Crisco
    3/4 cup buttermilk
    Mix Crisco and flour until it resembles dry meal.
    Add buttermilk and mix enough to combine but no more.
    Pinch off dough and form into a balls,
    flatten on greased baking sheet.
    Bake in pre heated oven at 425F for 12 mins
    .You may want to roll the dough and cut the biscuits out
    . If you do,then cut the dough about 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick when rolled.
    Cornbread
    2 1/2 cups of self-rising cornmeal
    1 1/4 cups of self-rising flour
    3 eggs
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup of sour cream
    Sweet milk
    - just enough to make the batter pourable and slightly smooth.
    Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
    Put shortening in iron skillet and put in the oven to melt shortening.
    Mix dry ingredients first.
    Then add the eggs, sour cream, and milk.
    Make sure that shortening is hot enough
    to partially fry the bottom of the bread when it is put in the pan.
    If you are not using an iron skillet you may want
    to sprinkle some cornmeal in the bottom of the pan to help make the bread not stick.
    Cook until the top is golden brown (about 30 minutes).
    Chocolate Cake
    1/4 cup milk
    1 Tbsp vinegar
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/4 cup shortening
    2 squares (2 oz) unsweetened chocolate
    1 cup sugar
    1 well beaten egg
    1 cup flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/2 cup boiling water
    Mix the milk, vinegar and soda and let stand for 5 minutes.
    Melt the 1/4 cup shortening with the chocolate in a double boiler
    Remove from heat and add the remaining ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
    Bake in a greased 8x8 inch tin at 400degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
    Enjoy with a rich chocolate glaze, frosting, or just powdered sugar.
    Apple Pie
    2 c. sugar
    1/8 c. cornstarch
    1 rounded tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp nutmeg
    5 c. apples, peeled and sliced
    1/2 tsp lemon rind, grated
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    Combine sugar, cornstarch and spices.
    Set aside.
    Combine the apples and lemon rind, and sprinkle them with the sugar mixture.
    Spoon into a 9-inch pie crust. Cover with a second crust, sealing edges.
    Make slits in the top crust.
    Bake for 1 hour or until golden brown.
    Serves 8.
    Blueberry Cobbler
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. flour (all-purpose)
    2 c. Blueberries
    1/3 c. butter
    Melt butter over low heat.
    Mix sugar, milk and flour together with butter.
    Pour mixture into a deep baking dish.
    Pour fruit over top of mixture.
    Sprinkle extra sugar on top.
    Bake at 400* until brown--about 1 hour
    .
    Pralines
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    1/2 cup millk
    1/2 cup whipping cream
    1/4 tsp cream of tartar
    4 tbsp unsalted butter
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla>
    2 cups of pecan halves
    Put the sugars, milk, crem, salt and cream of tartar
    in a heavy saucepan and heat, stirring to dissolve the sugars.
    Once dissolved bring to a boil to a soft ball stage.
    Remove from heat and cool for five minutes.
    Stir in vanilla, pecans and butter and stir till mixture starts to look creamy.
    Drop by teaspoonful on wax paper and let cool thoroughly before you bake them in a airtight container.
