Association of Young Economists of Georgia
( AYEG )


The Association

The Association of Young Economists of Georgia (hereinafter -AYEG) is a non-government organisation founded in 1989 by students of the Faculty of Economics at Tbilisi State University. Later on three youth organisations of economic profile joined it.

AYEG unites youth, students, post-graduate students, and professionals interested in economic and business field. The Association has more than 200 members. AYEG is represented in the different regions of Georgia via its regional branches.


Its Aims

The aims of AYEG are:

to promote broad-based participation in the economic reform process and further development of the national economy of Georgia;

training of highly-skilled economic personnel; to promote a strong and vibrant entrepreneurial culture.


Current Activities

AYEG was the first in Georgia to promote the principles of economic reform and especially privatisation.

The members of AYEG work actively with the Georgian Parliament and Ministers. On the basis of this co-operation AYEG took part in drawing up of the concept of Georgias transition to the market economy and many economic laws. AYEGs participated in a working group, that was formed to elaborate the programme of economic development of Georgia, under which the current economic reforms are being implemented.

AYEG is engaged in regular studies of public opinion . The aim of this activity is to facilitate the implementation of economic reforms in Georgia. AYEG publishes a newspaper The Economic Review that contains analysis and promotion of the economic reforms taking place in Georgian society.

Tbilisi State University is a principal scientific base of AYEG. The Association has designed a programme of radical change in the system of economic education. This programme takes due account to the experience of leading world universities and of specific local features. The programme is implemented in the specialised macroeconomics groups, established by the initiative of AYEG and currently successfully operating at Faculty of Economics.

AYEG organises seminars and conferences with the participation of both local and foreign lectures that covers topics like the reforms carried out in Georgia and general economic issues and trends. As a part of educational programme AYEG conducts lessons on Economics in several schools of Tbilisi. To support entrepreneurial development in the country, AYEG prepares business plans, conducts market research offers, offers economic expertise; collects, sorts and provides to users legislation and regulations, as well as giving all-round assistance to foreign investors.

AYEG has working relations with economic institutions of foreign, particularly neighbouring countries.

The regional organisations of AYEG enable to extend these activities throughout Georgia, to involve the Georgian regions in the whole process of economic reform.
