Chapter   Three

Brian shifted in his seat. He was in the cafe waiting for Victoria to show up. He had dropped Nick and BJ off at Universal Studios earlier. He looked at his watch. 11:40am. She was ten minutes late. Brian hoped she was actually going to show up. He looked at his watch again. 11:45am. He sighed. Maybe she wasn't going to show. Just then he looked up and saw Victoria walk through the entrance. She scanned the restauraunt, looking for him. Finally, her eyes landed on his table and she smiled. She walked over to the table.

"I'm so sorry," she apologized, when she reached the table. "My father asked me to run an errand for him and it took longer than I thought it would."

"That's all right," Brian said. "Just as long as you made it."

He got up and pulled her chair out for her.

"Thanks," she said, as she sat down. "Are you always this nice?"

"I try to be," Brian said. "So, do you work for your father?"

"Yeah, I do," Victoria smiled. "My father is a business man, I guess you could say. What about you? What do you do?"

"I'm in the music industry," Brian said, carefully.

"Oh, really? Doing what?"

"Oh, just a little of everything."

VJ could tell he didn't want to talk about it, so she just moved on. "What about family?"

"My parents live in Kentucky," Brian said, relieved he didn't have to say anymore about his "job". "I also have an older brother named Harold. He was named after my dad. What about you?"

"My parents live here, obviously, and I have three older brothers that live nearby, named Josh, Adam, and PJ. Josh is married."

"So, you're the baby of the family. So am I. So is my cousin Kevin, and my friend Howie. I share an apartment with them."

"Cool. I live in an apartment above my brother PJ's," VJ said. "My dad wouldn't let me live there unless one of my brothers was nearby and PJ is the less protective one, so I agreed."

"Can't blame your father for worrying. You being his only daughter and all. How old are you?"

"I'm eighteen. I turn nineteen in about seven months. How old are you?"

"I've been twenty-one for almost a month."

VJ looked at him, surprised. "Are you serious? I thought you were at least nineteen."

Brian laughed. "I know. Everyone thinks that. Sometimes it bugs me, though. Like when I go to clubs, the bouncer won't believe me when I tell him my age."

VJ laughed. "I wish that happened to me. Everyone says I look older than I really am. When I met my friend BJ, she thought I was sixteen, when I was twelve."

"BJ?"

"Her name is really Brianan Jackson, but everyone started calling her 'BJ' when she met me, thus causing everyone to call me 'VJ'. So it's always VJ and BJ. Then there's my brother PJ, who's real name is Paul Johnson. Also, JJ and AJ, for my brothers Josh and Adam. It gets really confusing when we're all together."

Brian smiled and shook his head in disbelief. "This is so weird."

"What?"

"My best friend's sister's nickname is 'BJ'. Her name is Bobbie Jean. Then one of my other friend's name's 'AJ', which stands for Alexander James."

"Oh my gosh. That is weird, but interesting."

Brian looked at his watch. "Why don't we get going to Universal Studios?"

"Sure."

They both got up from their seats, payed the check, then headed to Brian's jeep. He opened the door for Victoria and waited for her to get in before closing the door. Then he went around to the other side and got in the driver's seat.

They were pretty quiet during the ride to the park. When they got there, they ran to the entrance like excited little kids. They went to every store, rode every ride, and saw every show. By the time 5:00pm rolled around they were tired, but happy. That's when Brian remembered Nick and BJ.

"I hope you don't mind, but I told by friend we'd meet him and his sister at the entrance," he said. "They're staying with me while their parents are out of town."

"No, I don't mind," VJ said.

"Cool."

They headed to the entrance. VJ saw the tall blonde guy and the blonde girl she had seen at the mall. Her and Brian walked over to them.

"Hey, guys. I'd like you to meet Victoria Johnson," Brian introduced them. "Victoria, this is my best friend, Nick Carter, and his sister, BJ."

"Hi. You can call me 'VJ'," she said, as they shook hands.

"Nice to meet you, VJ," Nick said. "B-Rok, how do you always meet the gorgeous girls?"

Brian looked at VJ. He thought she was extremely gorgeous with her long, curly, brown hair and grey eyes. He had never really cared about looks more than a good personality, but somehow, he met a girl with both.

"I don't know. I guess they're just drawn to me," he joked.

VJ laughed. "Yeah. He lured me in with his tracter beam. No girl can resist."

They all laughed. Nick thought she had a nice laugh. 'Nope, can't think thoughts,' he told himself. 'She's with Rok. I wonder if she has a friend as gorgeous as her.'

"Come on, let's head home," Brian said. So the four of them walked into the parking lot and to Brian's jeep. "I'll drop off Nick and BJ off first then take you home, okay, VJ?"

"That's cool," VJ agreed.

When Brian turned onto her street, VJ looked at him in surprise. 'Don't tell me lives in one of my father's buildings,' she thought. But that hope came crashing down when he pulled up to one of the more expensive ones. 'How can he afford to live here? This is one of the most expensive ones. He must have a pretty good job in the music industry.'

"Alright, Nick and BJ. Get out," Brian said over his shoulder.

"Okay, okay," Nick said. "It was nice meeting you, VJ."

"You, too," she said, absently.

Nick and BJ got out of the jeep and went into the apartment. Brian backed out again and asked her which direction to go.

"Turn right here," VJ said.

Brian looked at her. 'Does she live here?' he wondered. When she told him to pull up to the most expensive building on the block, he wondered how she could afford live there. 'Her father must pay her a lot.'

"Thanks for a great time," VJ said, interrupting his thoughts. "I had a lot of fun."

"Let me walk you to your door," Brian said, about to get out of the jeep.

"No, that's okay," she said, hurrriedly. "My brother may be one of the less protective ones, but he still has his moments."

She hesitated for a moment, then leaned over and kissed Brian. She meant for it to be only a little one, but when Brian kissed her back, she couldn't help but keep it going. They were both breathless when they broke apart. VJ smiled at him, then got out of the jeep.

"Call me," she said, before closing the door.

'You can count on it,'Brian thought as he watched VJ walk up the stairs to the apartment above. When she opened the door, she looked back and waved to him, then went inside. Brian backed out of the parking lot and headed home, wondering what it was VJ hadn't told him.

Little did he know that VJ was wondering the same thing as she changed into a tank top and sweats. She hadn't come close to an answer when she turned the TV off and went to bed. 'When he wants to tell me, he will,' she thought. With that, she turned off her bedside lamp and went to sleep.
