Chapter   Thirty

Yet another month later....

"What's the next song you guys are gonna release?" BJ asked the Boys.

BJ, VJ, Alisha, and the Boys were all at the park, chillin', talking about what's been going on with them. Even though they were all home, they didn't really see each other 'cause they were all out doing their own thing.

"We're thinking of releasing 'We've Got It Goin' On' again," Kevin answered. "See if it'll do better the second time around."

"That's a good idea," VJ said. "Now that you guys have a bigger following, the response should be better than last time."

"That's what we were thinking," said Brian. "When did you get so smart about the business?"

"From hangin' around you all the time," VJ smiled. "And it's the only logical explanation for releasing a song again."

"Smart and beautiful," said Brian, proudly. "I couldn't have asked for a better woman."

"Well, I only hope I find a woman as good as VJ," said Howie.

"What about us two other girls?" Alisha asked.

"Yeah," said BJ. "How come we got left out?"

"Sorry, girls," AJ apologized. "Howie wasn't thinking. Again."

"Shut up," said Howie. Then he looked at BJ and Alisha. "You girls are included. Brian, AJ, and Nick are very lucky to have you."

"So, what do we do now?" asked Nick. "I think we've pretty much talked about every subject on this planet."

"Well, I think BJ and I are gonna take off," AJ said. "We only have a few days before we leave again and I want to be alone with my girl."

"Please, don't remind me," Alisha muttered.

"What's up?" Nick asked her.

"I need to talk to you, but not right now," she whispered in his ear.

Nick looked at her curiously, but nodded. AJ and BJ said their goodbyes and left. Pretty soon, Kevin and Howie left, saying they had dates they had to get ready for. Brian, VJ, Nick, Alisha went back to "their" apartment since they had nothing else to do. It was pretty much quiet during the ride home. Nick kept looking at Alisha, wondering what it was she had to talk to him about. And she didn't give any hints to whether it was bad or good.

"BJ, can I ask you something?" AJ looked at her. They were in BJ's apartment, watching a movie.

"What is it?"

"Well, I was just wondering if you could um...." AJ thought for a second about what he was going to say. He decided to try again. Just speak from the heart, he told himself. "You know, I was thinking. What's the point in both of us being missing each other when I'm gone when you could just come with me."

BJ looked at him in surprise. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"

"If you're thinking that I'm asking you to go on tour with me, yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying."

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah. I don't want to be apart from you if I can help. I want you to see what I see when I'm gone, I want you to be where I'm at, I want you to be near me. I know you have a job, but please say you'll consider going with me."

"How long will I be gone?" BJ asked him.

"About a month," said AJ.

"It's kind of last minute...."

"I know, but seeing as how you work for you dad, you should be able to get the time off."

"That may be, but he treats me like all of his other employees. I have to put in a vacation time notice like everyone else."

"Please, just ask him. Call him.... right now." AJ handed her the phone by the couch.

"Okay, but I won't guarantee anything."

BJ dialed her father's office. He picked up and they talked for a little while. AJ watched the expression on BJ's face when she hung up. This doesn't look good, he thought.

"Well," BJ said, quietly. "He said to have a good time."

"What?"

"He said to have a good time," she repeated, smiling.

"You can go?"

"YES!! I CAN GO!!"

AJ let out an excited yell and threw his arms around BJ. She laughed as he picked her up and spun her around. Then they went into BJ's room to pack the things she could now and shorten the packing time she would have in a few days.

Alisha took Nick into her room, looked into the living room, saw VJ and Brian sitting on the couch, cuddling in front of the TV, then closed her door and locked it.

"Okay, Ali," Nick said, suspiciously. "That's going on?"

"I have something very important to tell you," she started. "You know how I was sick the week before you got home?"

"Yeah," he said. "You said you had the stomach flu or something."

"Well, it turns out that I didn't have the stomach flu." Alisha took a deep breath, then looked at a very confused Nick. "Nick, I'm late."

"Late for what?"

"Oh yeah. I forgot the whole tutor thing. You've seen 'Grease', right?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"Do you remember how Rizzo told her friend she felt like a defective typewriter at the drive-in?"

"So?"

"That's how I feel."

Nick sat on Alisha's bed and thought about that for a moment. Then the realization dawned on him. He looked at her with wide eyes.

"You mean, you're.... that we're...."

"Pregnant? That's a real possibility."

"How long?"

"I don't know. But I made a doctor's appointment for tomorrow morning to find out for sure. But I think I am."

Nick didn't know what to say. He was shocked at the news. He looked at Alisha and saw the look of fear in her eyes. Nick got up from the bed, walked over to her, and put his arms around her.

"Don't worry, Ali. We're in this together. If you are gonna have a baby, then we'll do this together."

"Nick, what are we going to do? You're career just started taking off in a major way overseas. I don't want you to feel like you have to be with me because of this. If you want to end it now, I'm okay with that." Please say you don't want to leave, she pleaded silently.

"No, I want to be a part of this," said Nick, looking her in the eye. "It took the both of us to make this happen. I wouldn't even consider the possibility of bailing out now. Not ever because...."

Alisha looked at him, as he looked down at the ground. "What?"

Nick mumbled something, but Alisha couldn't tell what it was. "Say that again?"

He looked up at her again. "I love you."

Alisha looked at him, astonishment clear on her face. "You do?"

"Yeah," he said. "There's no other way to describe what I'm feeling. I know you might think how could a sixteen-year-old know what love is? But I do. I've been feeling this way for a while now, but I never knew how to tell you until now."

"You're fogetting something, Nick. I'm only seventeen years old. I'm not an expert on love either, but I can honestly say that I love you, too."

Nick looked at her for a second, then grabbed her in a big bear hug. Alisha wrapped her arms around his waist and held him as close to her as she could. They both looked at each other at the same time and Nick leaned his head down for a kiss.
