"I didn't think there'd be this many people here," said Brian in amazement.

"Neither did I," Adonica said. She was surprised to find herself having fun with Brian. It was more companionship than anything else, but that suited her just fine.

"How about dazzling the crowd with a dance?" Brian asked.

"Sure. Let's go."

Brian and Adonica went wild on the dance floor. They had fun experimenting with different dance moves and even made up some of their own. Adonica felt fully energized. Finally, a ballad came on and Brian put his arms around her, while she rested her head against his chest. It really seemed to finalize the inevitable ending. Adonica knew this was the last time her and Brian would ever slow dance as a couple.

Then Adonica spotted Nick, watching them from across the room. Nick and Adonica had danced together a few times, but other than that, they pretty much avoided each other. Adonica had been wanting to talk to Nick since he got to the house earlier, but every time she stepped up to him, he'd say he had something else to do. And no matter how much she tried not to let it bother her, having Nick ignore Adonica like that hurt her more than anything.

When the slow song ended, Adonica went outside for some air. Even though she was out there for only a few minutes, Nick was there with Adonica in no time.

"Oh, I didn't know you were out here," he said, trying to play off the fact that he followed her. She knew it, but didn't say anything.

"Everything looks pretty good between you and Brian," he went on.

"It's alright," Adonica said, slowly.

"I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be."

"Why?"

"Because. Come on, Adonica. I know you feel the attraction I do."

"Yeah, I do."

"I just want to be with you. I want to be the one you run to when we come to visit or when you come visit us. I want to be the one you blow kisses to while we're getting on a plane. I want to be able to do the same to you. I love you. I try not to, but I can't stop."

"Why didn't you just tell me?" asked a voice from behind them. Nick and Adonica turned around, and saw Brian standing there, a couple of feet away.
