Chapter   Four

One month later....

The Backstreet Boys were in Orlando for a few days of rest and relaxation. BJ and AJ decided to go out for a walk in park. BJ thought AJ was acting weird, but she didn't know why.

"Okay," she said. "Alexander James McLean, tell me what going on before I smack you!"

"Hold on," said AJ. "I'm trying to figure out something." He thought for a few more seconds. "Well, I can't think of a better way, so I'll just give it to you."

"Give me what?"

"Since I wasn't here to celebrate your 19th birthday with you, I'm going to give you a late birthday present." AJ pulled out a long, thin box from his pocket and handed it to BJ.

BJ took it and opened it. She saw two bracelets in the box. A gold ID bracelet and a bracelet with diamonds on it.

"Oh my goodness," she breathed. "This had to cost you a lot."

"It doesn't matter," said AJ. "I love you and I don't care about things like money when it comes to you."

"Oh, thank you so much." BJ threw her arms around him. "I love you, too."

AJ hugged her tightly to him. "Look on the back of the ID bracelet," he said, when he pulled back. "Wait, turn around first."

"Okay." BJ turned around. "Can I read it now?"

"Hold on one second." AJ pulled out a small velvet box from his other pocket before getting down on one knee. "Okay, now you can read it."

BJ turned the bracelet around and her mouth dropped open. BJ, will you marry me? was engraved on the back. BJ quickly turned around and found AJ on one knee, holding out a open velvet box with a diamond engagement ring in it.

"Are you serious?!" she practically yelled.

"Definitely. Brianna Jackson, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

BJ stared at him in disbelief for a second. She looked at the ring, then she looked back at AJ. She decided to keep him in suspense for a while.

"I don't know," she hesitated. "We've been together for only a year...."

"One year, six months, and five days," AJ told her. "How much longer do you need to know that you want to be with that person forever?"

BJ smiled. "Yes. I will marry you."

"YEAH!!" AJ shouted at the top of his lungs.

AJ picked her up and spun her around until they were both dizzy. They were both bursting with happiness. Then AJ put BJ down on the ground, put the ring on her fourth left finger and gave a kiss with all the feeling of love he could put into it. BJ kissed him back with just as much feeling. She couldn't have been happier than she was at that moment.

"We have to go tell the others now," BJ said, excitedly.

"My thoughts exactly," AJ agreed.

Together, they practically ran back to BJ's apartment. They told VJ the news and VJ jumped them both and enveloped them in a big hug.

"I'm so happy for you!" she said. "Call the fellas, we'll have a celebration."

"Let's do it." AJ was about to grab the phone when he saw the look on BJ face. Then he remembered. Brian.

"Are you sure about that?" BJ asked VJ.

"If you're talking about Brian, it's fine with me that he comes over with the rest of them. Besides, they have to find out sooner or later that me and you share an apartment."

"If it's all right with you, than let's call them over."

AJ picked up the phone and told Brian, Kevin, Howie, and Nick to come over as soon as they could and gave them the address. Ten minutes later, there was a knock on the door. BJ went to answer it, since VJ was on her computer emailing Alisha with the news.

"Hey, guys, come on in," BJ said, stepping aside.

"So what's all the secrecy about," Howie asked.

"Yeah, AJ. What's goin' on?" asked Brian.

"Are you in trouble?" asked Nick.

"Does this look like the face of a guy who would get in trouble?" asked AJ, innocently.

"Yes," they all said in unison.

"Okay, maybe you're right," AJ said. Then he turned around toward the hallway. "VJ, THEY'RE HERE!!"

"VJ?" Kevin said. "Does she live here?"

"Yeah, she does. For the past year," BJ said.

Then VJ walked into the living room. "Hey, guys. Have you told them yet, BJ?"

"No, but we're about to. AJ, would you like to tell them."

"Thanks, babe." AJ looked at Nick, Brian, Howie, and Kevin. "Guys, it would be an honor if you would be present at the wedding of Alexander James McLean and Brianna Jackson."

"You and BJ are getting married?!" asked Howie, his expression showing he was shocked.

"Yes," BJ said. "I don't know when, but yeah."

The four of them just stood there in shock for a minute.

"Congratulations, you two," Brian said, giving them both a hug.

"Thanks, Bri," said AJ.

Then Nick, Kevin, and Howie congratulated them also.

"Howie, I wanted to ask you to do me a favor," said AJ.

"Sure. Name it."

"Would you be my best man?"

"Definitely, man." The two best friends hugged.

BJ turned to VJ. "You have to be my maid of honor, girl."

"I wouldn't have it any other way."

The two girls hugged when the phone rang.

"I'll get it," said VJ. She ran to the phone and picked it up. "Hello?"

VJ heard something but couldn't understand 'cause the noise level had risen. "Could you guys quiet down? I can't understand this person."

"Sorry," said Howie.

"All right. Who's this?"

"It's Alisha. I just got your email."

"Alisha! How's it goin'?"

Nick looked over at VJ as soon as he Alisha's name. He ran over to VJ.

"That's Ali? Can I talk to her?" Nick was jumping up and down.

"Hold on. Ali, you say congrats to the newly engaged?"

"Yeah, put it on speaker phone. I know the rest of the fellas are there. I'd like to hear from them, too."

"Okay." VJ turned to the rest of the people. "Guys, Ali wants me to put it on speaker phone so we call all talk to her."

"All right, cool," said Kevin.

VJ pushed the button for speaker phone and hung up the receiver. "It's on, Ali."

"Hey, everybody. How you doin'?"

"Hey, Alisha," said Brian. "It's good to hear from you."

"Yeah," Howie added. "How've you been?"

"It's good to hear your voices, too," she said. "I've been doing really good. I have my own apartment and I have a great job, and I just found out that I'm being considered for a promotion."

"That's great," said AJ. "Anything else exciting happening where you are?"

"No, not really. I understand all the excitement is in Orlando. Congratulations on your engagement, BJ and AJ. I'm really happy for you both."

"Thanks, Ali," said BJ. "We have yet to talk about the remote time when we can get married, though."

"That's right. Backstreet Mania has hit the United States. Congratulations on the release of the album, fellas."

"Thanks, Ali," said Kevin.

"Is Nick there? I haven't heard anything from him."

"Yeah, I'm here," Nick finally spoke up.

"Hi, Nick, how you been?"

"You know what, Ali? I think you better talk to Nick in private. Go ahead and take it in my room, Nick."

"Alright. Thanks." Nick walked into the room VJ directed him to.

VJ waited for to hear his voice before turning off the speaker phone. She turned around and saw Brian standing right behind her.

"VJ, could I talk to you?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure," she answered. "Let's go out onto the balconey."

VJ lead the way to the sliding door to go out on the balconey. Everyone discreetly watched as they walked out and shut the sliding door.
