Chapter   Six

Well, to say the least, I got very bored when Nick and the others left. I had gotten too used to having him around. My boredom was quickly remedied by Delia, Mary, and Tara. We went everywhere together: the mall, the movies, restuarants, the beach, amusement parks, any place social. They tried to get me to go out with different guys, but after a couple horrible dates, I refused to let them set me up anymore.

I finally saw Enrique when he spent a couple weeks with me at the house. He thought I was crazy to move in with some guy I'd know for less than an hour. I told him that Nick was a very nice person and he was paying me to live here basically. After convincing him that everything was okay, we had fun. We went out together, had a good time. I was sad when he had to leave. It had been like old times with him. Nick called me twice a week, and I told him everything was fine, Enrique was staying with me a couple weeks, and his dogs missed him. Enrique even answered the phone one time and Nick thought he had the wrong number until he asked who it was. They seemed to get along.

Soon, I got used to having Nick gone. With all the things I'd occupied myself with doing, the three months seemed to have flown by. I knew every now and then, Delia, Mary, Tara, Leighanne, and Samantha would go out and visit with the guys for a couple days, maybe a week. Delia always asked me if I wanted to come, but I made up some excuse not to go every time. Pretty soon, she stopped asking and I regretted not going with her at least once.

Upon his arrival back home, Nick walked into my room with a handful of presents. I saw him and tackled him with a huge hug.

"I guess you missed me," he said, laughing.

"Of course I did," I said. "It wasn't the same without you around."

Nick smiled. "I missed you, too."

"Did you work hard?"

"Oh yeah. But not enough for me to forget about getting you something in at least three countries I was in." Nick held out the gifts to me.

I looked at him surprised. "You didn't have to."

"I wanted to. Think of it as "thank you" gifts for watching the house while I was gone."

"But you're already paying me to do that."

"I know. This is another way of showing my appreciation. Please don't hurt my feelings by not accepting."

I laughed and took the gifts. "Okay, then I accept."

I took the presents and opened them. He bought me a beautiful pair of earrings from England, perfume from France, and a beautiful necklace from Spain. I loved all of them, especially the necklace. It was a simple heart with my name engraved in it, and "With Love, Nick" on the back.

"My sister helped me pick them out," Nick said.

"They're beautiful. Thank you." I hugged him once again and he put the necklace on me.

We went downstairs with a movie and began watching. He was really tired, I could tell just by looking at him, but he also kept nodding off during the movie. Half way through, he was asleep. I continued to watch the movie until it was over, but I didn't get up 'cause Nick was using my lap as a pillow and I didn't want to wake him. I just used the remote to turn off the TV and feel asleep myself. Just watching him made me tired.

We awoke to the phone ringing continuously. I picked it up. It was Samantha.

"Let me talk to Nick," she said.

"He just woke up," I told her. "Give him a few minutes."

"I haven't seen him in almost two weeks, I want to talk to him."

"Alright." Nick had gone back to sleep. I shook him awake. "Here, it's Samantha."

Nick reluctantly opened his eyes, sat up, and took the phone. I got up and left the living room. I went to my room and put on a CD. After listening to it for about two minutes, I took it out and put in the tape that had "Bailamos" on it and pressed play. When the song ended, I rewound it. I was about to press play again when there was a knock on the door and Nick walked in.

"Just wanted to let you know that I'm gonna go see Samantha and won't be back for a while, probably," he said.

"Aren't you tired after all your traveling?" I asked worriedly. "Maybe you should get more rest."

"Nah, I'm okay," Nick smiled. "I'll be back later."

"Okay."

After Nick left, I went down to the living room to use the sound system he had down there. I put in my tape, turned up the volume and started dancing. I was so emmersed in the song, I didn't notice the doorbell ring. It was the insistant knocking that finally got me out of my daze. I ran to the door and opened it.

"How loud do you have the music up?" Enrique asked me, a teasing smile on his face.

"Not too loud," I said, smiling back. "What brings you here after almost two months?"

"I have a month long break, so I decided to come and see you."

"It's nice to know you were thinking about me."

"I always think about you." Enrique looked dead serious. "I haven't stopped since I saw you back in June."

"Oh," I said, looking down at my hands. "Well, come in. We'll talk."

I stepped aside to let him in. We went into the living room. I turned off the music and sat down on the couch near him, but put myself into a position to face him. Enrique was looking at me with such an intense look I couldn't look him in the eye. The last time he looked at me like that was when we started going out back when I lived in Mexico. He got straight to the point.

"I was wondering if we could give our relationship another try," he said. "I miss being with you. I didn't know how much until I saw you at the beginning of the summer. I want us to be together again."

I looked at him with wide eyes. "I don't know what to say...."

"Say yes."

"I... I need time.... to think.... about this. I mean, you just spring this on me, certainly you can't expect...."

"Do you want to be with me again?"

"Well, I don't know. I guess...."

"It's not that hard. It's either yes or no."

"Don't tell me it's not that hard, Enrique. You came into this knowing exactly how you feel, I didn't. I'm not the same person you knew back in Mexico. And I hated having you gone all the time when you go your record deal. Don't get me wrong, I was very proud of you, I still am, but I never heard from you when you recorded your first album. Then you started getting popular, I saw you less, and you barely even called...."

"It'll be better this time, Rosary, I swear. Just give me a chance to prove that to you."

"I'll think about it." Enrique just looked at me. "I need to think about my decision," I continued. "I'm not going to jump into this with my eyes closed this time."

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything serious," a voice said from behind us.

I turned and saw Nick. He looked terrible and I was immediately concerned. "No, you're not interrupting. It is your house."

"Rosary, we have to talk about this," Enrique said to me in Spanish.

"We'll talk about this tomorrow," I said in Spanish. I turned back to Nick. "Nick, I'd like you to meet a very good friend of mine, Enrique Iglesias. Enrique, this is Nick Carter. He owns the house."

"Hi, nice to meet you," Nick said, extending his hand.

"Nice to meet you, too," said Enrique, shaking his hand. The two of them studied each other.

Enrique turned to me, once again speaking Spanish. "Are you seeing him?"

"No," I said firmly. "I'll think about what you said and tell you my decision tomorrow."

"Okay," Enrique said in English. "I better be going. Remember, Rosary, think about it. I'll be here for two days, then I'm heading back to Mexico for a while."

"I will," I told him. "I'll see you later."

Enrique walked over and kissed me. Then he said goodnight to Nick and left. We heard him get in a car and take off down the street.

"So that was him," Nick said. "Nice guy."

"Most of the time," I said. "Now what happened? You came in looking like you just got some terrible news."

"I guess you could say that." Nick took a deep breath. "Samantha and I broke up."

Nick looked at me for my reaction. All I did was stand there in shock.
