Chapter   Five

"I can't believe those girls," Valerie said, angrily.

"I can," Tamera said. "They were the same girls from the limo. They were just acting like they were God's gift to men."

"Did any of them mention they had girlfriends when you were talking to them?" Tricia asked.

"No, Nick didn't say anything to me," Anissa said. "I was waiting for him to."

"Brian didn't say anything to me either," said Valerie. "Do you think these guys are just players?"

"I don't know what to think," Tricia sighed. "I mean, Kevin didn't say anything to me either, but he just doesn't seem like the type of guy to play around with someone's feelings."

"AJ doesn't seem like that either," Tamera said. "But then, he didn't tell me he had a girlfriend either. Even though I already knew, I was thinking that he would tell me. When he didn't, I thought I made a mistake about those girls in the limo. I guess not."

"Howie told me he had a girlfriend," Ariana said. Everyone looked at her in surprise.

"He just said it," she continued. "I felt like I couldn't breathe when he said it. But I told him that I didn't think it was a good idea to get involved with anyone you work with. He seemed disappointed, but I don't know."

All the girls walked in silence for a while.

"Aren't we supposed to be looking for Donna?" Anissa asked.

"Oh yeah," Tricia said. "I just said that so we could leave, but it would be a good idea to know what the video is about."

"We don't have to look," Valerie said. "Here she comes."

Donna walked up to them. "How are you girls doing? Did you and the Boys get to know each other all right?"

"Yeah," Ariana said with a big smile on her face. "They seem like pretty decent guys."

"We were just coming to look for you," Tamera said. "You know, to tell us the concept of the video."

"Great. Let's go over here."

The six of them went over to a nearby picnic table and sat down.

"So, what's the song called?" Tricia asked when all of them sat down.

"It's called, 'I'll Never Find Someone Like You'," Donna started. "The concept of the video is, the Boys' girlfriends have broken up with them because of some things they did to hurt them. Now the Boys are trying to win their girlfriends' love back by telling them through a song that their sorry and they want them back 'cause they'll never find someone like them, hence the name of the song."

"So what we will be doing in this video?" Valerie asked.

"We'll be filming individual parts of the couples together," Donna explained. "Then we'll be filming you guys apart. When the video is complete, it'll be pieced together to look like this. At the beginning, the Boys will standing around a fire on the beach singing the first verses. Since most of them have their own verse, a little three second flash of whoevers singing that verse will appear with his 'girlfriend'. For example, whose Nick's partner?"

"I am," Anissa answered.

"Okay. When Nick's singing his part, there will be this daydream-like flash of you and him when you were still together, like he's remembering those times. I know three seconds doesn't sound like a lot to you, but in a video, that's long."

The girls looked at each other. This video is going to be so awkward, they all thought. Donna went on to explain the rest of the video, told them the ideas the director was thinking of, took them to their "dressing room", then told them to go to the set when they were ready to start filming.

"Who was that?!" Laura asked Nick, angrily.

"Chill out, Laura," Nick said. "That was my partner for the video. We were just getting to know each other."

"It looked like they didn't even know we existed," said Marianna, looking at Kevin.

"Look, we didn't get around to telling them," Brian said. "We started getting to know them only a few minutes before you girls showed up."

"Do you like her?" Lisa looked at Brian.

"Like who?" he asked, innocently.

"That girl you were with!" she practically shouted.

"Not the way you mean."

"Why don't we just all calm down," said Howie. "I know we can work this out."

"Work it out all you want," said Jazzmine, turning around. "I'm going back to the hotel."

"Baby, don't be like that," AJ pleaded. "Come on, let's talk about this."

"You know what? I think Jazzmine's got the right idea," said Laura. She turned and walked out of the tent.

The rest of the girls followed, leaving the Boys standing there in awe.

"When did this happen?" asked Kevin. "When did our girlfriends become this way?"

"I don't know," Brian replied. "I never noticed before now."

"Do you think it could be because we're not around much?" AJ looked at them.

"Could be," said Nick. "I never thought of Laura as the jealous type, though."

"Marianna never used to be that way either," Kevin said. "She was this nice, sweet, intelligent, beautiful girl. Now she's... she's...."

"Bitchy," AJ finished. The rest of the Boys looked at him, surprised. "Don't even tell me that wasn't the word you all were thinking of. Anyway, I think we need to pay more attention to them this week, find out what's going on in their heads."

"I think we should, too," Nick agreed. "Maybe we should get a second opinion."

"From who?" asked Howie.

"Valerie, Tricia, Tamera, Ariana, and Anissa," Brian suggested.

"But I didn't even tell Tricia about Marianna," Kevin said. "She probably thinks I was trying to keep her a secret."

"I didn't tell Valerie about Lisa either," said Brian. "But I didn't get the impression she minded me having a girlfriend."

"Anissa didn't ask, so I didn't tell her," Nick told them. "She didn't seem to mind either."

"Well, you guys may not have told, but I did," Howie said. "I started to feel like I was being unfair to Sarah."

"I just want this situation to go away," said AJ, sitting down. "I hate to admit it, but I think I fell for Tamera."

"I like Anissa," Nick said, like he was discovering a new demension. "But, I have a girlfriend."

"Sometimes we aren't given a choice," Kevin told him. "I don't want to admit it either, but I like Tricia a lot."

"Valerie is like a breath of fresh air for me," said Brian, softly.

"I know what you mean, B-Rok," said Howie, dreamily. "I feel the same way about Ariana. But what are we supposed to do?"

"Maybe this is just a phase," Nick said. "I mean, it's bound to happen when you've been with someone for a while, right?"

"He could be right," AJ agreed. "We could be over this by the time the video is over. Let's just try to keep ourselves in check."

"It's worth a try," said Howie. "I don't want to hurt Sarah by breaking up with her for a fleeting moment."

"I don't want to do that to Jazzmine either." AJ looked outside. "Come on, fellas. I think it's time to start the shoot."

The Boys got up and walked out of the tent. It was then they saw Tricia, Valerie, Anissa, Ariana, and Tamera in their clothes for the video.

"I think this is going to be harder than we thought," Nick said to Brian.

"I think you may be right," Brian answered.

They continued to walked to the set of the video shoot. I hope this works, thought Kevin, as they approached the crew. Or else we'll all be in big trouble.
