Chapter Three

AJ walked slowly to the bedroom he once shared with Roxanne, he cried as he sat on the bed. Tears of sorrow fled from his eyes as he covered his face with his shaking hands.

“She’s gone. I can’t believe she’s gone. Only ten years a go we met, and seven we said, “I do,” just four years a go she blessed me with a daughter, just a few hours a go,” he stopped, “Someone took her away from me.”

He lifted his head and looked at the picture of them on their wedding day, that hung on their wall.

“You made me the happiest guy in the world that day. Now, you’re making me the saddest. I don’t know how I’m going to handle this.”

He slowly got up off the bed. He got changed into boxers and crawled into the bed that was, to him, half empty for the first time in nine years. He went to shut off the light on the table, but saw the note Roxanne had written him; he read it once again and ended crying himself to sleep.

RING!RING!RING!

AJ jumped to the sound of the phone.

“Hello,” he said half asleep.

“One down, one to go,” the voice said.

“What,” AJ said sitting straight up.

“Your wife’s dead, your daughter’s next,” the man said as he hung up the phone.
