“Brittany, we have to go pick up Grandma.” AJ said coming down the stairs with her shoes.
“Yea I get to see Grandma,” Brittany yelled running to her Dad to get her shoes on. AJ laughed at her as he sat beside her putting on her shoes.
“Ready?” he asked as he got her jacket on.
“Let’s go.” She said running to the door. AJ laughed as he opened the door and watched her run to the expedition.
She was standing at the door, waiting for him to open it.
“Ahhhh,” AJ said as he picked her up and set her on the seat, and buckled her in.
He walked around to the driver side and hopped in. He drove off turning on the radio, flipping through the stations.
“It’s Mom’s favorite song,” Brittany said as she immediately recognized it.
They drove in silence as they listened to her favorite song, one that they heard time after time in their house.
The song ended, and another familiar song came on right after.
“Daddy, it’s you,” Brittany said from the back seat.
“I know.” AJ said trying to smile as he heard:
Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell my why I can’t be there where you are
There’s something missing in my heart
“Daddy, are you O.K.?” Brittany asked as she saw her dad cry.
“No, Britt. I really miss Mommy.” He said.
“I do, too.” Brittany said squeezing her doll she brought with her.
“We’re here Britt,” AJ said as they pulled into the airport parking lot. There was no reply. He looked back to see her sleeping with her doll in her arms.
He smiled and sighed at the same time. He unbuckled his seat belt, and got out of the car. He walked to the other side and opened the door.
“Daddy,” she said as she opened her eyes to see her dad unbuckling her seat belt, “Mommy was here.”
AJ felt his heart drop, “Mommy couldn’t have been here.” He said going to pick her up.
“I heard her. She was here.” Brittany said clinging onto him, “She talked to me.”
