Three ‘Cats take Gold in Mid-Jersey League Tournament 3/5/00

Four Fords Bearcats made it to the finals of the “A” League Tournament held at South River last weekend, and three of them took home gold medals for their efforts.

Peter Buttitta (56), Brett Epps (86) and Vin Maglione (HWT) all won gold for the Fords Bearcats, who captured a team third place overall in the season-ending tourney. Buttitta scored a tech fall over Will Buchan of Woodbridge. Epps pinned East Brunswick’s Sergio Garcia and Maglione came from behind to win by fall.

Matt Hart (60) took a silver medal in the championship bout, after ousting the tourney’s first seed with a pin in the semis.

Epps, who finished the season undefeated and unscored upon, was named the Mid-Jersey League’s Outstanding Wrestler for the season in the upper weights.
The Bearcat Captain will join teammates Joe Bubenheimer and Tom Hogan in the Kids’ State Championships to be held in Lakewood on March 18 and 25.



7/8 Grade Tourney 2/27/00

Bubenheimer, Halsey take first at 7/8 Tourney


Joe Bubenheimer (90) and Phil Halsey (100) captured first place honors at the Annual Mid-Jersey League tournament held this past weekend at Woodbridge High School.
Both wrestlers were seeded first in their respective brackets.
Bubenheimer was named Outstanding Wrestler in the lower weights marking the third year in a row he has won an OW honor.
Halsey,who was wrestling his final matches for the Bearcats, finished his season undefeated. He had been a Bearcat for six years.
Taking third place for the Bearcats was Alan Herbert (105) who avenged a regular season pin by Marlboro's Nick Parisi with a pin of his own in the third period. Herbert had also spent six years with the Bearcats.
Chris Christie (75) took a fourth place to round out the Bearcats' scoring.

B Team Tournament 2/20/00

Two Bearcats earn Gold at B League Tourney

Mike Pysniak (56) and Chuck Gentles (60) took gold medals at the B League's annual tournament held at Sayreville High School.
Gentles finished his season undefeated.
Rookie Craig Batista took a Silver medal and was named the League's Outstanding Wrestler for the season.
Coach Mike Pysniak's wrestlers just missed a fourth place trophy by a few points, but the passionate Coach was undeterred.
"We had great kids on this team. None of them ever gave up and they fought hard. I'm proud of them and I hope they come back next year."
