BABY: Encourage Young Mothers

Moms who give birth anytime in 1999 should be strongly encouraged to nurse their babies for an *extended* length of time. many potentially lifesaving benefits for baby. "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" by La Leche League has a wealth of information which can inspire mothers to nurse their babies, and practical tips for overcoming difficulties which many new mothers face.

It might be a good idea to buy a couple copies of this book and give it NOW to pregnant neighbors, relatives and friends!!!

BABY: Goats Milk Baby Formula

I have been told by midwifes that Goat milk is lacking in sufficient amounts of folic acid and iron. If you choose to use goat milk.....get a liquid iron supplement.

Goat's Milk Formula

2 c. raw certified goat's milk 1 cup distilled water 1 1/2 Tbs.. lactose sugar 1/8 tsp. cod liver oil, mint flavored, the Vitamin D helps the baby absorb the calcium and the mint aids in digestion

You can also add blackstrap molasses to add more vitamins.

When we lived in WA I ran a licensed daycare. Several of the children were on goats milk instead of formula....most recommend, raw and fresh from the goat...not the stuff you get at the grocery store.

BABY: Stock Something For The Babies

Mother's milk is best, of course: but even in the best of times, not all mothers can nurse. Maybe every family, pregnant or not, might want to stock up on a case of Baby Formula. What could it hurt? Come January 2000, it might save the life of someone's precious child. If the crisis is not bad you can donate it to the needy afterwards.

JUST FOR FUN: GLOOP!

(this recipe makes about 1 c. of gloop)

2 oz. white craft glue 1/4 c. water poster or tempera paint in a nice, slimy color 1/4 c. warm water 3/8 teaspoon borax powder

1. Pour the glue into a bowl. Add 1/4 c. water and stir until the glue and water blend. Add a few drops of paint, and stir some more until it's mixed well. Set aside.

2. In a small bowl or measuring cup, stir together the warm water and borax powder until the powder dissolves. Slowly pour the borax and water into the glue mixture, stirring constantly for two minutes.

3. The fun part: Knead the sticky gloop with your hands until it's smooth and stretchy. When the kids (or you!) are done playing with it, store gloop in an airtight container.
