If you live in a place with a reasonably long growing season, you may want to consider growing gourds for a homeschooling project. We started growing gourds in 1999 and now they're practically the only things in our garden! On the following pages you see the growth cycle of some of our gourds. To the right are some gourds from the 2002 crop. See if you can do a little research to find out what kind they are. Below is an extra long-handled gourd. In early July (of the year it was grown) it was only a couple of inches long. At the end of the growing season it could have measured longer than 6 feet with a good growing season!
