Their dark sound is reminiscent of bands like Black Sabbath and Danzig, while also grabbing bits from Samhain, early Slayer and Megadeth. Tracks like “Faces in the Fireplace” and Cardinal Breath are classic metal tunes with heavy as hell drums by Phillip Alred, thumping bass riffs by John O’Hara and grinding guitars by Dan Wilk. “An Old Day of a Live Night” shows a lighter side of BOA going back to the new wave eighties for a bit. "" " Joshua www.groundwaves.com"""BEGETS OF AUTUMN" "Keep"""What a strange album! I really don’t have a clue about. what to write on this review. We can notice elements of Dark music, Rock and Roll, Metal and including Country, that was what I could appreciate on this so weird album that contains 10 themes, all very different from each other. The band counts with 3 members (Dan Wilk, guitarra - keyboards & lead vocals; John O´Hara baixo - keyboards & vocals; Phillip Alred, drums &vocals) and the album was produced by themselves and ACM Records; recorded at Whale Tale Studios. The sound most of the times isn’t one of the best and the album’s visual art doesn’t call attention either. There are songs that we can point out like “operation white house”and “a old day of a live night” and many others where there are very original riffs, causing many different sensations.Ultimately, an interesting album ,but I guess that this band can deliver us even much more; we’ll stay tooned for the next album. 6.0 Rating"" "Francisco Diaz-Valdes A. Renegade2K Magazine www.renegade2k.com" Keep This release is a true full lenght album, as the number of tracks contained in the silver disc shows. The duration is close to 40 minutes, that are usually requested for an album, and the music is very interesting for almost half an hour. After a quick overview of the album, it can be useful an explanation of the monicker Begets Of Autumn, as we can find in the four pages booklet: the Begets Of Autumn are the things that cause the beginning of the end, So the band wants to bring us in the shadows and darkness, always nearer to death and dissolution. This can be useful to understand the dark and morbid mood soaked in Keep. To obtain this atmosphere, the disc starts with four good tracks of stoner rock, with an old and sick sound. I like the entere first part, but White Elf is really groovy. The fifth track is a bit different from the others: it seems to have a thrashy riff and a punk attitude in it, in addiction to a mad singing and great speed changes. Then the great rhythm of The Three Of Us comes to bring us the last great song, before 10 minutes that are not as good as the rest. The contents are now clear, so we talk about the execution: I think bass is very good, as sometime the mad vocals; the rest is always quite good. The production is good to create the right sound, but not always perfect. So we have a quite interesting album: it always menages to create sick and dark atmospheres, following the path of Black Sabbath. "Review by Zoltan The Mage http://digilander.iol.it/theportal/metal/The Web Site The Review in Itlay " A little industrial mixed with some good metal" "Shreveport LA UnderGround" "Hey I just downloaded that song...cool... So far you're the only band I've come across that covers witches and the crafts...keep it up...hehe". "bwitchu" "http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/thewildwitchcoven" Here's a band out of Tennessee comprised of Dan Wilk on Guitar, keyboards and lead vocals, John O' Hara on Bass and Phillip Alred on the drums. I was very intrigued by the mysteriousness of their music. They are what you would consider metal with a hard edge. My favorite tracks on their CD Keep are the first track, Commom Law, this one is my ultimate favorite on the entire CD. I really got into this song from the first time I heard it. It is an extremely cool tune with a contagious groove. Track two, White Elf is a slower tune, very melodic with good guitar riffs. Track three, Cardinal Breath is another one I really liked. It has some crunchy guitar and good soloing. This is an up tempo song with a good drum beat. Track 5, Operation Whitehouse starts out fast and heavy, a great moshing song. It is definitely a thrashy speed metal tune that really kicks ass. I really liked Track 6, The Three of Us, it has a TSOL feel to it, kind of an old school punk then it streams into a cool jazzy guitar solo. These guys are very cool, check them out! www.shredgirl.net Begets of Autum ~ Keep Reviewed by: Metal Girl I'm not sure what to make of this album. I really liked the first song "Common Law" which sounded bluesy yet heavy with a strong "Pink Floyd" feel to it. "White Elf" (a slower more melodic song) was less catchy but had the same style and appeal as the previous track. At this point I though Begets of Autumn had a unique sound & style that I was starting to really enjoy. I thought the vocals needed a little work and the mix sounded a bit hollow, but that could be due to the production quality or the fact that BOA is a 3-piece. So I thought I had this band figured out - a heavy, bluesy, Pink Floyd inspired rock band. Then, the fifth track "Operation White House" completely threw me off. Out of nowhere comes this speed/thrash metal song with dark and deep vocals. Although I liked the vocals better on this song, I was confused as to why the band did a 180 from what already sounded so good. After the fifth track, the style of each song was completely different as if they were each performed by different bands. I am not sure what happened. Overall, I think Begets of Autumn have some good ideas, but should pick a style and develop it some more. The first half of the album was great....perhaps keep going that route. Just my two cents. www.metalgirl.com http://www.metalgirl.com/begetscd.html mslittlepickle ~~~`` Indiania have to say i didn't quite know what to expect, but after listening, i have to say i love it! my 9 year old son likes COMMON LAW. he's headbangin' as i speak! he asks- "play my song again". my early review/thoughts for those who haven't yet heard BOA's 'keep': an eclectic mix of sounds.some with an industrial edge. COMMON LAW ~ has a ministry-meets-hankIII-meets-early manson flavor. WHITE ELF ~ kinda reminds me of the cure, with a country undercurrent flowing.(i like the cure, so that's a compliment) CARDINAL BREATH ~ has that ministry vibe with a heavy groove. and the guitar solos and licks remind me of priest and metallica.excellent! COMPARITIVE DARKNESS ~ son of c.o.c. and danzig. i like the heavy groove.slayer-ish guitar leads.blends very well. OPERATION WHITE HOUSE ~ hum, if you put megadeth, slayer, nuclear assault, and (old)sabbath in a blender... umm, very tasty cocktail! THREE OF US ~ the cramps, mixing it up with king diamond a bit. ORANGE AND BLACK HOLIDAY ~ takes me back to the days of alice cooper.with the king diamond vocal attitude. strangely creepy and a bit erotic too.in a twisted way. FACES IN THE FIREPLACE ~ again i hear a sliver of mercyful fate,megadeth,slayer,c.o.c.,with a tad of anthrax thrown in for spice. (maybe the fireplace needs to be replaced with a toasty gas heater and propane tank? just a thought. too much hank hill) AN OLD DAY OF A LIVE NIGHT ~ refreshingly pretty. again, the cure comes to mind.mated with the chili peppers, though. THE YET BECOMES YOURS ~ a bit of nine inch nails, king diamond, type o-,but on ludes. have to say if i had to pick a fav, it would be a tie between cardinal breath and faces in the fireplace. and i'm hoping that if BOA ever get up this way i can check ya out live.i like the way you all have blended many types of musical influences into your music. cd is great. i'm sure Cybercelt will check it out when he gets off work. of course, he'll probably have a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT view of the sound to the songs!(he always does!) Not bad, not mindblowing, not sucky wither. - PsyphreChrist Baltimore, Maryland" kick kick ass song, keep up the good work "swboardr - Norwalk, Iowa " A break from the norm! This song offers a unique twist to the standard hard rock/metal song. With understandable vocals that are actually sung and not growled or screamed, the song took a minute or so to sink in. At first I was not sure what to make of the strange sound, but the rolling bass line keep grabbing my attention. This song would go great on a mix tape for your next road trip! - Jay_Kincer Flint, Michigan 80's here we come 10,000 manicas and the talking heads hang out with testaments guitar player and put a song together, tell elvis costello i said "hello". - Rattlehead Jacksonville, Arkansas not bad needs vocals in beginning, it flows well, its ok - insecurity Du Bois, Pennsylvania, seems like alll bandsare doing the whole start off light and the doing the kick in heavy riff. but it was a nice change to hear a band not do that. - Opaline77 Dyersburg, Tennessee In the shower..... The beat in this track is sweet but it sounds like the vocals were recored in the shower or something. If thats what you are goign for then right on but if not I would change that aspect of the track. Extra Credit: Beat - Queen_of_Winter Calgary, Alberta, Canada hehe.. neat intro The music has a cool Metallica Garage Days/ White Zombie feel.. i dont think the vocals are right for the music Maybe experiment more with the singing style - jugre79 Cape Girardeau, Missouri Now I Call that DARK The tune is DARK the vocals are dark as well I donno if this is a real band or just a guitarist a vocalist with a sequencer but if not the bass is really groovy, the arrangement is a bit monotonic needs more work, but the vocals are great. I wish I heard some more melodys or solos but this is a typical Dark rock tune, so great job in working more hard these guys cabn make it. 6/10 Bassem Deaïbess from BLAAKYUM http://blaakyum.iuma.com http://www.garageband.com/blaakyum Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Bass, Mood - Diabolo_I Beirut-Lebanon, Mount Lebanon, Lebanon Good Song I like the intro, it definitely establishes attitude. I love the bass. Thewhole thing comes together well, its not like just one thing is good, it all works well together. I feel like the song should build to something big, but it just doesn't get there. As soon as you figure out how to get it there, this will be a great song. As is, I'd give it a 8.5/10 Extra Credit: Guitars, Bass, Beat, Mood - Blue_Hen Newark, Delaware My interpretation I like the intro, the bass and drums just blend together quite well, the structure of this tune fits, I'd definately love to here a professional recording of this, mixed to cd quality, a little more feel (aggression) in the vocals wouldn't hurt. Extra Credit: Drums, Bass - Bassinyerface Shakopee, Minnesota cool The production's not great, the guitars could be thicker and the drums sound a bit tinny. Cool effects on the vocals, I like the guitar solo. The effects on the guitar is good, just could be a fatter sound. Catchy sound, something to put you in a lively mood. good work so far, just get a better recording... keep it up. Extra Credit: Guitars, Beat, Mood - BT3metal Morrisville, Pennsylvania It Rocks! OK, I do not like the sound, but this track still rocks. Maybe it could get a bit more tight... Very interesting mixture, by this I mean the riffs! Nice lead guitar fills, well played! Extra Credit: Guitars, Beat - CHRISZALE Sonderborg, Denmark Not a bad tune. Musicianship is excellent. the guitars sound good....more good guitarist need to rise, I'm tired of all the non-lead-playing-guitarists out there now. If you have talent show it. Good lead work. The drummer and bassist sound tight. I like the vocals but not the mix on them. The hall sound is a bit too much. A slight chorus and some light reverb was all that was needed. It is a good tune, but I suspect that there is better in your set list. Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Bass, Production, Melody, Beat, Mood Special Award: Most Rocking Track - DamienGavin Uhrichsville, Ohio Vocals drown everything else out First off, good tune overall. The guitar is pretty blistering in parts. The bass kicked much ass also. The drum beat is a little too basic. Now for the bad part. The vocals are way too loud in comparison to the rest of the band. Bring the music volume way up, and lose the echo on the vocals.(which may or may not have been intentional) Overall good effort. Extra Credit: Guitars, Bass - khayos Brenham, Texas guitars are great the best part of this song is the guitars. the drummer is good. the singer isnt bad. i hear an echo, which is cool, but i dont know if its just my real player or not, but it sounds real good like that. Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Beat Special Award: Most Rocking Track - sandman10_5_86 Red Lion, Pennsylvania Creative guitar lines Really nice creative guitar and bass work on this song. Kind of has and old 80's feel, like Judas Priest meets Billy Idol. Really cool bass line and guitar though, that's not too common on here anymore. I'm a bass player too and I gotta give much respect to that player. Sounds good. Extra Credit: Guitars, Bass - weeje Racine, Wisconsin GOOD GROOVE A NICE BEAT AND A GOOD FLOW ALSO NICE GUITAR RIFFAGE. Extra Credit: Guitars, Beat - sheeroctavia Clearwater, Florida Interesting sound! this is original sounding. I would like to hear other songs from this band to see the difference in styles they are able to produce. Extra Credit: Guitars, Mood - sczneptune Old Town, Maine Nod yo head The beginning makes be bounce my head, I don't know why. The bass line is very good, it makes your song flow. The guitars are great too. I could jam in my car to this song. The vocals are pretty good. Overall, this song is good. The solo is ok. I love that bass, have to tell you twice. Extra Credit: Guitars, Bass, Production Special Award: Most Rocking Track - milkweedband Cincinnati, Ohio More aggressive vocals would be nice. The guitar would sound better if it was out more, it's too far back in the background. I really liked the bass arrangement, worked nicely into the song. Extra Credit: Guitars, Beat Special Award: Best Potential Movie Soundtrack - potza3 Plains, Montana Totally awesome guitar playing I really think this guitarist plays a mean guitar. Doesn't seem loud enough though. Extra Credit: Guitars - subXeroTX Kingsville Naval, Texas ROCKIN! music is really good. like the sound of the bass. sounds a little like old megadeth. - PHOENIXMETAL Long Island, New York Sounds like early Megadeth It is hard to hear what is going on due to the recording quality. The singer has a Dave Mustaine thing going on. - 3_against_1 San Diego, California Move over Metallica Didn't Metallica do this song I'm pretty sure they did. Production is horrible but I understand not everybody has the money for big time production so I don't hold that against you. The flow of the song just didn't go well the lead into the solo was to choppy it seemed so improvised like no time was put into it. The bassist is a bad ass if you guys do anything keep him. Extra Credit: Bass, Beat - bassplayer3486 Davenport, Iowa where did it go? Well i love the music part of the song and it sounded great. Then the vocals came in and they didnt fit at all. well they did but there was no melody it was just fit them in where he can. i think this band needs to go through the song and make parts that are easier for the singer to add his lyrics. make it more fluent and not so jumpy to fit them.. the music is great though, the leads need some work so they fit but it was cool. Extra Credit: Guitars, Mood - Hedshot Salem, Oregon Sounds like OLD SCHOOL Metallica The guitar has a good droove going.. The drums are well done... The bass sound isnt very noticeable until it gets to the guit solo.. Id like to hear it with a better recording.... Man, those drum licks are tight! Extra Credit: Drums, Beat - jugre79 Cape Girardeau, Missouri good changes good changes, the playing seems to be a little sloppy, but it has got some style - Fairbanks Raleigh, North Carolina good track i dug it.its a good song - FLESHFIST Las Vegas, Nevada Whats in a Headline? The way the song started I thought the song would open up more. The production is a little weak but the ideas come through ok. Its pretty thrash metal, the drummer is not a musician he's an athlete (the poor guy) pretty cool ideas hear. Needs a quality demo. - Chris_Kayden Interesting walk in......... reminds me of Metallica. Not so much on the vocals though. Very upbeat song. Band sounds very tight. Too much going on at once I think. Song just drags on, keep waiting for it to go somewhere. Spice it up a little, overall not bad. - Dyswasion Pittsburg, Kansas Metalmania!!! Love the guitar work in this song. Maybe a break to slow it at some point in the song ala like Sabbath does, but overall really good musicianship. Would have like to hear more of a vocal or harmony with a stronger hook chorus. Keep up the good work and Rock!! - Powerslam Johnson City, Tennessee Not bad... Bass was louder than the drums or guitar though. Nice beats, good bass, good guitar, not too bad vocals. You guys get a little lost beat wise though. You need to play more together, rather than everybody doing their own thing. Talent's there though. Good luck.. Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Drums, Bass - khayos Brenham, Texas Rockin' Double bass, Grindin' guitars, tight bass - I like it all except the vocals - to me metal has really good vocals - this seems to need help in that area - definately rockin' - you gujys must like Judas Priest!! Keep Rockin' Extra Credit: Guitars, Drums, Beat Special Award: Most Rocking Track - 7months Los Angeles, California Old School Metal Old school metal. Metallica's Kill 'em All or Megadeth's Killing Is My Buisness come to mind in the first few monemts. Very sloppy guitar work and poor production make this a no go. But a big round of props to them for keeping the true metal alive! - jdrespling Portesville, Pennsylvania dissonance very wierd. the vocal style was original, but not cool. i didnt think the vocals went along with the rest of the rhythm half the time. other than that i guess it was interesting, better than the first song you guys were up against. - Fredmissouri Schwagg, Iowa Great Music This Song had great music. The singing could be well... alot better. Extra Credit: Guitars, Melody, Beat Special Award: Best Potential Movie Soundtrack - goaway212 East Peoria, Illinois Great Music This Song had great music. The singing could be well... alot better. Extra Credit: Guitars, Melody, Beat Special Award: Best Potential Movie Soundtrack - goaway212 East Peoria, Illinois Grand Metal! I love it... The drums at the front, and all through out the song was very brilliant... the Guitarist is right on key... the bassist got that DEEP thrill to the metal.. and the vocalist is wickedly awesome... The solo kicks majorass! try getting a better studio, and you guys will go one way, straight up! Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Bass, Lyrics, Melody, Beat, Mood Special Award: Most Rocking Track - MasterOrion Tunica, Mississippi TOOL AND THE MELVINS THIS SONG SOUNDS LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN TOOL AND THE MELVINS WITH WEIRD VOCALS ON THE TOP, I WOULD GET A NEW VOCALIST BUT BESIDES THAT EVERYTHING IS UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT, THERE IS DEFINITELY POTENTIAL HERE! - HATCHETWOUND Memphis, Tennessee bone crunching Pretty good metal, but the bass seems too upfront. Maybe a little less reverb on the vocals too. Interesting meter changes. - mattymac1000 Brooklyn, New York Good start The song starts off really cool . . .really fast-paced, but when the drums come in, it seems to slow it down a bit. The vocals are kinda cool, but it sounds like the singer had a few beers before he started singing . . not edgy enough, not enough bite . . .good solo in the middle, very cool. fix up the vocals a tad, maybe change up the drums in the beginning and you got a good song . . peace Extra Credit: Guitars - Flamer Vandoeuvres, Switzerland Early Raven, Megadeth sound This song sounds like it was recorded in 1982 in England. Thats not really a bad thing though since most of the best metal came from that era, It sounds like something that would be on Megadeth's first album. I think it needs some serious sharpening, the musicians seem to be off at times here and there, but I definetly see good potential. Extra Credit: Male Vocals - Spastic Chattanooga, Tennessee Cool Good lyrics, good guitars and overall its a good song. I would defintly like to hear this again. Tavs. Extra Credit: Guitars, Production - tavs Borre, Møn, Denmark drums i like the drums, the drummer is really talented, this song has a really kewl mood, keep on rokin guyz. Extra Credit: Drums - Borneinhand Coventry, Connecticut Cool cool Extra Credit: Bass, Beat Special Award: Coolest Chill-Out Track - tdnaawag Greenville, South Carolina needs work Great idea for song. The intro some of the notes are too trebly. It kind of gets boring add some punch to the song and you guys will have something. - Pantallica7200 Mansfield, Massachusetts Unusuall Vibe THis has a real 60's scooby do kind of feel. Pretty cool. Recording quality is kind of not so good, but overall pretty original tune. - GhostShip Sioux City, Iowa Interesting Your lyrics are interesting. I found your intro a little too long. The track itself is quite unique with a mystic mood. Extra Credit: Mood - takeabow Chatham, Ontario, Canada one word Ozzy - twiggy69 Olathe, Kansas meeeelllllllloowwwwwwwwwwwwwww Super mellow. I would definitely chill out to this song. It was absolutely like nothing else that I have ever heard in my life though, but originality has it's bonuses. It would like to hear more songs just so i could see if they were all this mellow. Extra Credit: Drums, Mood Special Award: Coolest Chill-Out Track - MannyGallagher Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada Wow, creepy! Very nice intro, its chilling and great. Extra Credit: Melody, Mood - Draineoh Highland, Indiana hmmm voice is a lttl loud...good beat nice tones intersting ...sounds good...bet you guys make for a nice bar atmosphere Extra Credit: Beat - puppy_katt Kansas City, Missouri Polish Not too bad a track but the vocals seemed a little rough. Polish those up and it will be all good. - LowDown Electrocity, World Wide Web HELLO THIS IS OK. THE DRUMS ARE CHEESEY...VOCAL AND LYRICS ARE REALY GOOD.......I LIKE THE TONE OF THE LESD GUITAR,...THE OVERALL SOND COULD BE BIGER.......A ROOM EFFECT WOULD FIX THAT RIGHT UP THE BASS IS A LITTLE THIN SOUNDING...THAT NEED SOME BOTTOM PUNCH.. GOOD LUCK, STIV Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Mood Special Award: Best Potential Movie Soundtrack - THEBOD Bethlehem, Pennsylvania spooky great track. melodically, with the vocals it brings me into the whole 80's 'gary-numan' new-wave thing, though coupled with the off-kilter drum pattern and slide guitar, this mashes out into a spooky little track. goodjob Extra Credit: Melody - LMN8R Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Not bad at all Good synth intro...very creepy vocals...solid... Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Production Special Award: Best Potential Movie Soundtrack - ymorgental6319 Toronto, Ontario, Chile spook ee like the background music more than the vocal melody. good submarine music. under water. Extra Credit: Production, Beat, Mood Special Award: Best Feel Good Track - MaddyMud The Park Of Highland, California Strange I feel like this is alien music.I like the drum beat, its pretty sweet but i cant understand the words. I wish i could, there are too many effects. If it was more clarified this song would be impressive. - Johnnyallred Keene, New Hampshire Interesting composition of sound Creative sound usage. The vocal is technically okay...but don't really like the character of the voice. Be great if you used more of a montage of vocals to go with the montage of sounds. But hey, at least the whole thing sounds different. Extra Credit: Keyboards/Organ/Piano, Sequencer/Effects Programming, Mood - TheHurricane Colorado Springs, Colorado Dreamy synth country techno. It's a little too moody and spaced for my own tastes, but the effort if there, the keys are nice and the vocals pleasant, but really really dreamy, good work. Might want to tune that guitar, it's pretty flat. - Blorp Montreal, Quebec, Canada BAWITABA I hate drum machines, so Im turned off from the top. The vocals have too much distortion and its too out there, as a concept, for me. Sedative, tho. Ill give you that. Special Award: Coolest Chill-Out Track - SevenRivers Peoria, Illinois great use of dissonant time great opening...good use of dissonant time, and harmonic minor melodies. production is not the greatest in the world...sounds like a home studio recording. sounded very dark and melodic, but not in a pretentious kind of way. - eynjoe Baltimore, Maryland Spooky Don't hear too many songs with a waltzy 3/4 backbeat or SFX reminiscent of a haunted house. Good job putting this one together. It's nice to have the open space. Perhaps a bit to ethereal, but it's different. - ltdband San Diego, California Cool Nice... great sounding rythm. Singing could be a bit louder, and snare a bit quiter. drums sound sloppy around 0.55 seconds in. I like this shot though. Keep it up. Extra Credit : Male Vocals, Guitars, Beat - SepulPan Minnedosa, Manitoba, Canada Rock N Roll I'm not crazy about the vocals, but hte fact that there is lead guitar is cool as hell. The mix is pretty good too. Extra Credit : Guitars - incineratemusic Boston, Massachusetts This ones going to the top! Burning in Zest, this is a good song... a few suggestions though- first, sing a little less aggressively. it wasnt very aggressive as-is, but if it was slightly mellower the song might sound better. second, the bass dominates the song in the beginning too much (loved the bassline though)... smooth out the guitar sound and turn it up, and then the distorted part will hit the listener harder when it comes on as well. smoothing out the guitar once it turns to distorted chords in the end, maybe even making it lower, might make the song sound better too. however, great song in general... keep up the good work!!! Nice and slow, the music and singing really holds this slowed down song together, keeping it all in check. The computer spook sounds are interesting too. I am not sure what to think it is cool, but also very different which is a good thing to hear today. (reminds me of Babylon Zoo)" "RJ12 - Exeter, Ontario, Canada" "Good song, but whats with the REVERB? Good song, great bass line. Over all the song itself was very strong; however it could be a bit tighter in spots. The downside of the song was the reverb, way too much. I have noticed this on a number of recordings here at this site. Some advice, don't use so much reverb, it tend to hurt the song more than help it. Reverb should be used in small portions, never in large amounts, unless you want to get the "in a large cave sound". "TripX - Niagara Falls, New York" (REVERB IS USED TO DISTURB THE SONG SOME SO NO ONE RECORDS THEM) " Nice song! Well played track. Good vocals but learn the words more before recording! Great guitar work and instrumentation!" "Moondog303 - Fulton, Missouri" "nice work it sounds kind of flattened, but i know the feeling. just listen to Burn Kate's "Without A Kiss".... production can be hard. still is very promising, very good. keep it up" "BurnKateDrumGuy - Haddonfield, New Jersey" "excellent rock a wicked song. I like the slow pace, the guitar and the drums" "gorax - Stoneville, Western Australia... " "good, musicians metallica. Nice beats. KInd of a strange vocalist but atleast it isn't completely fucking up the sound." "metalmaimer - Santa Cruz, California" "Legalize Cannibalism!!!! This is not my type of music at all but I will try to look at it with a really open mind. All of the players definately have talent and know how to put a song together. I don't really care much for the guitar tone. It is just a little muddled for my taste. Although I don't care for his style of singing, the vocalist knows how to use his voice and projects very well. On the other hand, the breakdown at the end is pretty cool. Sorry guys, if I liked the older style metal I know I would love you guys. You play what you play very well." " Han "Solo" would be proud... I think the mix on this song can be improved greatly by turning up the rythm guitar tracks and turning down the vocals and leads. Way down. They are really overpowering. I'm not sure if I love the vocals or if I hate them. They definately kept my interest. Nice solos but turn them down." "Mephias - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania" heavy riffs work a bit on the vocals Extra Credit : Guitars, Melody Special Award: Coolest Chill-Out Track - Metal13X Minneapolis, Minnesota it's alright i don't know, i guess it's okay. Maybe a better recording would do it justice. it sounds real late 80s early 90s death metalish. if that's the sound you're goin' for, then you're on the right track. if not, a new lead singer or more melodic vocals would change the whole tone of the song. - whitefang197 Indiahoma, Oklahoma "Great guitars! First of all, the guitars are great, especially the shredding solos. Perhaps it's real player, but to me the song could have been mixed better, especially the vocals. What kind mic/compression are you using? A good quality mic and a little studio editing can make all the difference. Good work! " "VikDanger - San Luis Obispo, California" "Nice Job! Original sound... Hey, cool! This reminds me of techno-Stoner Metal. I wish the singer had a gruffer voice, and I wish the guitar had more bite, but I love what the bass player is doing and I like the electronic (?) drums. Original. I like it a lot! " "MommaOSB - Long Island, New York " " Song of the day Great song. I really enjoyed it. The words were great" "sherocks - Whittier, California" " break down the doors of mainstream. here comes real music.. hmm. all i can say iss.... i fucking love this song. i love this kind of music. but no one makes it anymore. its not mainstream-type music, which is great. bass has unique sound, as well as guitar and vocals, i like the arrangement of parts and the heavy use of effects on both guitars and vocals. i like the leads used by the guitars and the sounds produced to give it that eerie, somber kind of feel to it. the melodies are unique and lyrics have the qualities to match. in my eyes, theres not too much you guys could do to make this song better, because simply i think it is fantastic, but if i gotta throw in one critique, i guess i'll say it could use some off-rythyms and/or drum fills to give that extra dose of oddness. whatever you do, dont stop making this music untill it corrupts the mainstream. fuck up the system. keep at it" "egj510 - Yorkville, Illinois" "SPEEEEED FREEAKS GREAT RYTHM AND LIGHTNING FAST GUITARS !! " "Nixon666 - Märsta, None, Sweden " "Metallers of ye olde times I am glad to bear witness that the state of modern metal is not causing the genre to collapse. This band is a good example of axemen and co. who flourish in the arts of old. The beginning of the song does its job by drawing in the listener and preparing him/her for the body of sound. The guitarists have done a very good job and show glimpses of original song writing. The vocals are good and meaningful (though should be worked on a bit), and the drumming is right on key. I hope the other songs don't dissapoint after hearing this one. " " rpmarens - Hamburg, None, Germany " "interesting interesting... cool vocals cool guitars! Your words are a strong point- really had to listen on this real audio crap to make them out. Don't get me wrong, the music was interesting - but I would say you have mastered the craft of poetry and are now exploring putting music behind it. The bass kicked much ass also. The drum beat is a little too basic. Now for the bad part. The vocals are way too loud in comparison to the rest of the band. Stupid lyrics, and cheesy guitars, BUT there is definetly something to be appreciated here. There is a moment of some originality that, hopefully, will develop. The drums sound like they're off every once in a while, but it sounds like a drum machine so, I don't know how that is possible. The first time I ever saw Metallica's Nothing Else Matters in tab format I had two contemporaneous thoughts. 1) There's now way in hell something that simple can work and most convicting of all, 2) Why the hell didn't I think of that? Anyway, when I listen to the guitar work on this track, I revisit both of those stale emotions. It's simple, it's melodic, and while you're never going to break any new ground in this department, it's almost hypnotic. This track is kind of to the left of center. It's like a good glass of bottom fermented double bock. It has a murky intelligence which features some very unexpected passages. It's probably a deeply acquired taste. It's a bit too complex for a generation of people who grew up thinking Kurt Cobain was a good guitar player and that Boy bands invented three part harmonies. The bottom line is this. I really like this song. I'd listen to it in my car. It would piss off my wife who wouldn't get it, and my kids who haven't lived long enough to experience this kind of anguish. I can already see my wife's eyes roll back in her head and hear my little girl saying, "Daddy, do whe have to listen to your music AGAIN!?!?!" This track isn't for everybody (In fact, it wasn't intended to be for anybody, you wrote it to please - or express - yourself, not for the approval of anyone else, myself included). And that's what's special about it. Don't change a thing. Artistic expression is very rare in today's world of corporate punk and trendy rap rock. The recording sounds live and although that is a style of recording I like it also means getting what you want down. There are times when the vocals go out of key and the harmonies distract rather than reinforce. Several nice moments on guitar work although there are breaks where staying in key seem a strugle The song's vibe is good but the performance issues have to be addressed. There is a very interesting song here. - Bruce Satinover I believe the ghost of EAP might come back to haunt you for this. - DD Ess Nice composition with good chord changes. Nice use of dissonance that resolves well. The playing is very strong, however the vocals are too far back for the listener to actually understand the lyrics. I want to know about The Ghost of Edgar Allen Poe and I couldn't hear the story! The part where the bas drops out around 1:40 doesn't work, seems to take the momentum with it. There's a good song to work with here but it just isn't in your face enough. Mid-fi production which is ok but if you're working that way it would be good to hear a more brutal song especially with a chorus of "All authority must die." Good stuff but in need of some pumping up. Example: bass sound is really good, with some EQ and compression it could be crushing. Guitars are crunchy but sound like distorted guitars played into a tape deck. If you're going for a 80's kind of sound this works and I'm off in the review. But if you're going for a modern sound you need some help production wise. Those issues aside I like "Anti Authority" but would like to hear it more immediate sounding to match the performance. - Bruce Satinover Definitely one violent and crazed wall of relentless noise. Seems like the message would be pretty disturbing were I able to hear it but it was pretty overwhelmed by a bass guitar that was probably twice as loud as it should've been. - Paul Laginess I'm straining to find nice things to say about this. The chromatic guitar riff is hopelessly redundant, and the particular sound chosen by the author is grating. The drums are unimaginative, almost to a point where I suspect they are programmed. Bass is entirely too loud in the mix, further emphasizing that tired riff. Vocal is cleanly recorded, but the lyric is trite and the perpetual yelling becomes nerve-wracking after 3:00 of it. The performance is reasonably solid, but then there's not much technical difficulty involved. This track needs a lot of help. - Scott Griffin THE GOBLIN WARS 5.50 Composition 2.83 Production 4.83 Performance 4.70 Overall ~~Boys its time to come out of the garage...production work is a must on this song....difficult to make out most of the song unless it is cleaned up...another suggestion would be to add an effect to the vocals...they seem too dry for this type of music...instrumentation in the beginning is out of tune and takes away from a good beginning~~ - Pe'tra Faulk I don't know why, but it seems to me that finding indie metal bands that put any significant effort into their production is nearly impossible. This sounds, in all seriousness, like someone ping-ponged the instrument tracks on a couple of boomboxes, then laid a strikingly clean, dry vocal on top of them. Timing is all over the map, particularly the "GO!" break at 3:00. The vocalist is spending entirely too much effort trying to growl, despite the fact that he doesn't have the voice for it. On a positive note, there are some nice ideas here with the flow of the composition, but to bring that flow out, this just about needs to be re-recorded. - Scott Griffin Say what you will about BofA but I have to give them an A for effort. These guys didn't pull this out of their fannies...it took work. It does sound a bit like there was a live pair of mics at a rehearsal in the basement but the boys no how to play. - Paul Laginessv Reviews of the Begets of Autumn
