"So you first cover the toast with margarine, making sure it gets right to the edges and then follow with a thin layer of vegemite, I repeat a THIN layer. Once again spread right to the corners for maximum taste and you’re done!"

Zac watched as Keryn took a bite of her creation, obviously savoring the moment.

"Sorry Keryn but that just looks sick."

"Suit yourself , all the more for me." she replied licking her fingers. Zac rolled his eyes.

"Where are my brothers?"

"Still sleeping I guess."

"Still?"

"Yeah, Taylor doesn't wake up until the afternoon these days, you should know that."

"Yeah it’s just hard to believe one person needs so much sleep."

By now Zac and Keryn had moved out of the kitchen and had spread themselves on the lounge room floor watching Saturday morning cartoons. After arguing about which channel to watch and what was the best cartoon they ended up turning the TV off.

"Heard about your PMS state yesterday."

"ZAC!! Have some consideration."

"Just repeating what I heard" Zac put up his hands in defense.

"Well I dont think it was PMS as much as tiredness, thank you very much. Maybe I’m getting sick or something."

"Maybe."

The two continued to much on their breakfast in comfortable silence.

"How’s Kayla holding up with the Dan situation?" Zac asked gingerly.

"Okay, getting there at least, Ike seems to be standing in as a great friend."

"Friend? More than a friend Keryn I think he wants to get in her pants!!"

"ZAC!"

"It’s true, anyways she would agree at the moment, she seems to be on a rebound."

"She would never let him in her pants." Replied Keryn as she threw a cushion at the big mouthed Zac. But although she was defending her friends she did begin to question whether or not she was on a rebound.

Taylor was enjoying his marathon sleep immensely until the phone rang. He found it difficult to believe that the entire household was asleep but never the less he answered the phone.

"What?" He demanded groggily.

"Hi, is Keryn there? It’s an emergency."

"Yeah hold on a sec." Taylor covered the mouth piece and yelled ‘KERYN’. When she appeared in the doorway he tossed her the phone and threw the covers back over himself hoping to escape once more to the world of slumber. It didnt work. Keryn was on the phone and still in the room.

"Hello?"

"Keryn it’s about Dan."

"Justin?’

"Yeah, he came here last night looking for Kayla, he was wild."

"Oh God."

"I rang his place thing morning to check on him and it seems he’s left….for Tulsa."

"He’s coming here?"

"I think so, I’m just warning you but I’m not totally sure though."

"Okay, thanks anyways,"

"Yeah, tell Kayla that I’m thinking of her."

"Will do, thanks Justin."

"No worries, bye."

"Bye."

Keryn hung up and Taylor threw back the covers to demand,

"Was that Justin, ‘drop dead gorgeous Justin’?"

"Yeah" replied Keryn in a far away voice.

"You okay Keryn?"

As the same time Keryn clutched onto the door frame and lowered herself into a nearby chair.

"I think I need to lie down, I dont feel too good."

Taylor’s eyes grew wide with fear as his best friend seemed to collapse before him. It didnt take long for him to get out of bed and put Keryn into it. Not knowing what else to do he went look for a female, they were always good in these sorts of situations. Kayla was asleep when he entered her room but she was quick to get up when she heard what had happened. Soon all four of them were gathered around Keryn.

"Have you got a headache?" asked Kayla as she felt her forehead. Keryn nodded in reply. The boys looked on, worried.

"I think maybe you should try to sleep okay. Have you had anything to eat this morning?"

Zac was quick to jump in and answer,

"Yep, that vegemite stuff."

"Oh well that couldn't have made you sick" replied Kayla but the boys exchanged doubtful glances.

"Anyways Keryn I will take these ugly beasts away so you can have some rest. If you need anything we are all just here." Said Kayla as she blew a kiss to her friend and pushed the boys out of the room. None of them realized that by leaving Keryn alone they took away Keryn’s chance to warn the about the wild Dan that could turn up on their doorstep.

Downstairs Taylor and Isaac were emptying out the medicine cabinet while Kayla consulted one of those thick medical books and Zac looked up all the words they couldnt understand in a dictionary.

"Arggg..I dont know what’s wrong. Zac are you sure she was fine this morning?"

"Well yeah she ate that thing and we watched ‘Johnny Bravo’ together. Kayla rolled her eyes at the thought of the male testosterone cartoon.

"So she was okay this morning?"

"Yeah."

Kayla bit her nails in frustration, she didn't know what was wrong. Taylor and Ike had finished going through the medicine cabinet and they too were now siting at the kitchen table. None of them knew what to do.

"Maybe she’s in shock." Suggested Taylor.

"Why?"

"The guy on the phone said he had to talk to her as it was an emergency."

Ike, Zac and Kayla perked up.
"Well it does say here that those are symptoms for shock and…..chicken pox?"
They all looked at each other, confused.

"I wonder what the phone call was about." thought Zac aloud.

"Whatever it was I doubt it gave her shock." replied Ike.

"WAIT!" Zac jumped up in excitement. "Keryn told me this morning that she thought she was coming down with something, thats why she was moody yesterday." The others nodded in agreement.

"So the ‘emergency’ on the phone mustn’t have been too disastrous." Concluded Ike.

They nodded in agreement as the doorbell rang. They all looked at each other, puzzled. All the Hanson friends and family knew that the door was left open as soon as they were up. It had been done for years…people were always roaming in and out. Nobody ever rang the doorbell unless they were people that didn’t know them.
