1990ish: In high school I bought the JVC CD carousel and a JVC
stereo receiver plus a pair of Paradigm Titans
(The Titans stayed in my system for 6 years!)
1994, it starts: Someone told me about how the Lion King sounds
on their Brother-in-Law's HT system, so I:
Bought a 27" Sharp TV + Samsung HiFi VCR
A little later I bought a pair of Audiosphere recearch tower speakers
to utilize the JVC receiver's 'Matrix' surround sound
6 months later I bite the bullet and buy a JVC Pro-Logic receiver
and Audiosphere Recearch centre-speaker, using detachable speakers
from my ghetto blaster for rears
FIRST IMPRESSION: WOW.
at some point in here I buy a sub: Paradigm SB90 passive.
Its matched for the Titans and so does a pretty good job for a passive
pair of cheap rear speakers to replace ghetto blaster speakers (they
had impedance of 2 ohms; oops.)
demo model of Pioneer CLD-504 (I think) LD player/5--Disc
carousel CD player
then I settle for about 8 months... then make a real big purchase (selling
the previous Onkyo, LD player and my N64): Onkyo 828THX (refurb)
+ ProScan 8600P DVD player (new) + Monster DB25 to RCA cable
(all from onecall again). Now I have DVD and DD and BOY IS IT WORTH IT!!
Shortly thereafter I upgrade my speakers again: get rid of the Polk
M1 and Audiosphere Recearch centre and buy a pair of PSB Alphas and
the 100C centre, I send my Titans to the rear. Now I've got really
great sound.
Next upgrade: get rid of the passive Paradigm sub and replace it with
the Energy ES-8 100Watt powered sub. Huge upgrade here, it's
suprisingly exceptional for music! I highly recommend this sub if you don't
have a large space to fill, it is a great value!
I found a pair of Paradigm Phantoms used at a local Cash Converters
in perfect condition so I finally get rid of the Paradigm Titans (I gave
them to my parents) and use the Phantoms as main speakers
Next upgrade (now we're talking April, 1998), is actually a sidegrade
on my speaker system. I sold all five of my speakers and bought the Mirage
AVS500 speaker system. Very, very nice little speakers.
The last changes to my system were the additions of the Revolver turntable
and Adcom DAC.
