For those
of you who may be curious, I'd like to tell you a little about myself.
I've been married to a wonderful man for 21 years and we have 3 great kids.
Our oldest son, Terry, is 17, a senior in high school, very into soccer
and his girlfriend. Our only daughter, Danielle, is 10, in the 5th
grade, and into very into music. Our youngest son, Gregory, just
turned 1, and is into everything!
You can see from their ages that we really spaced them out. I tell everyone
that we had such a good time with the first two, we decided to start over.
But I do have to admit, it is definitely different the second time around!
They are the reason I started Treasure Vault Gifts. When our first two
were born, my husband and I worked together at our job and were in the
unique position of being able to take our children to work with us or alter
our schedule to their needs. We worked for 15 years with a great company
that believed in families. Then things changed....they sold out to a larger
company.
So, here we were with a 10 year old and a 4 year old caught in the child
care rut. For a couple of years, my mother helped out, then Danielle
started school. I found a job at their hours so I could still be
home. I even started substitute teaching at the elementary school so I
could be more involved. Then, lo and behold, I wake up one morning
in 1997...PREGNANT!
After the initial shock wore off ( after all, I was 38) and my husband
quit strutting like a rooster, we realized we owed this child the same
thing we had given the other two....a full time parent care giver. I'm
NOT saying that parents cannot work and raise their children perfectly
well. I am saying OUR decision was that our preference was to have one
of us home full time.
A couple of months after Gregory was born, we started looking for a home
based business. The search continued until we figured out we'd really
do the best at something we were interested in and loved. Well, I
LOVE to shop and had a pretty good bit of retail sales experience, especially
in the gift line. So, here we are, selling locally in our little town and
trying out a web site. Hopefully, with a little luck and a lot of
hard work, we'll make our presence known here.
The added bonus to this experience is teaching our children that success
is measured in many different ways. We have built a family that is now
building a business ... together. Their ideas and suggestions as well as
their work are part of what makes a difference. The fabric in our lives
is what holds us together and helps us succeed as individuals, as a family,
and now, as a business.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments (good
or bad), or suggestions you may have.
