DeepIMPACTITE -
Bolidechaser Makes a Stop at Meteor Crater
May 3, 1998
East of Flagstaff and the Canyon Diablo Arroyo
Coconino County, Arizona

While returning home from Holbrook, a stop is made to take some pictures of the crater rim while the Sun is at a low angle.
While taking pictures from the berm of the road, pieces of siliceous hematite (impactite), as well as shiny black chips of layered magnetite (iron shale), are found.

Bolidechaser's Trip Log:

On the Road to Meteor Crater, south of I-40:

North rim of Meteor Crater:

Abandoned buildings and "quarry" on southwest corner of rim:

Western portion of rim - this is the spot in the road where specimens were found:

Bolidechaser travels on to Gold Basin to complete the "hat trick" within 24 hours!

This is the last (micro) meteorite that I found at 5PM, May 4th.
Pieces of the iron shale that I found in the road at Meteor Crater.
A sliver of L4 that I found on the berm of the road at Gold Basin.
