Message from Jon:
PLANES, TRAINS and AUTOMOBILES
5/14/99
"This note comes to you from the Zurich airport where Matthew
McConaughey and I are waiting for a connecting flight to Nice... That's
right. We escaped Malta for the weekend (it was almost as difficult as an
Escape from Alcatraz!) and now we're headed to Monaco to hit a few parties
and attend the Grand Prix on Sunday. We're gonna be guests of the Mercedes
F-1 racing crew IN the pit. Pretty cool. I don't know if the Grand Prix is
broadcast on TV but if you find it... Keep an eye out for us."

Jon finished filming U-571, a submarine epic by Universal Studio
in June. He played a World War II submariner.
"At one point, he had to get into a small container, a piece of a set
about 4 feet tall, with four other guys," reports filmmaker Jonathan
Mostow. "There was a problem with an electrical short, and a little fire
broke out. ... I would say the bravest thing Jon did was going back into
that space for the second take."

June 9, 1999: Dorothea and Jon Bon Jovi, along with Laurie
and Doug Flutie (Buffalo Bills Quarterback) hosted a
Fundraising Gala for Children with Autism, in Mid-June.
The gala took place on the grounds of High Point, Dorothea and
Jon Bon Jovi's new riverfront estate in Red Bank, New Jersey.
The proceeds benefit both the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for
Autism and the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR).
The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism was established by
Doug Flutie (Buffalo Bills quarterback and 1984 Heisman Trophy
winner) and his wife, in honor of their seven-year-old son,
Doug Jr., who was diagnosed with autism at age three.
The expected guest list was a combination of celebrities from
the world of entertainment and professional sports. Confirmed
guests included Heather Locklear, Richie Sambora, Gianna and
Chazz Palminteri, Matthew McConaughey, Robert Sargeant Shriver
III, Bill Belichik, Phil Simms, Donatella Versace, April and
David Bryan, Tico Torres, Pam and Sean Landeta, & Jake Weber.

NY Daily News (6/22/99):
Bon Jovi Feeling Charitable
Jon Bon Jovi gave his all for Doug Flutie last weekend. The
rocker let the Buffalo Bill use his new mansion in Middletown,
N.J., for a benefit for Flutie's autism foundation. The
big-hearted Bon Jovi must be feeling flush after selling his
Rumson, N.J. spread for around $1.25 million because he and
his band agreed to auction off two performances "at your
barbecue, bar mitzvah or wedding." Two guests paid $60,000
each for gigs.
More than $500,000 was raised at the bash, where single-again
Matthew McConaughey did his "EdTV" chicken dance with most of
the ladies. Also on hand were Heather Locklear and Richie
Sambora (packing up their L.A. house this week, so she can
move to New York for "Spin City"), Chazz Palminteri, Jets
coach Bill Parcells, Sean Landeta, Phil Simms and single-again
Tico Torres, who came with Elizabeth Vargas.

Olympics World Summer Games. The event, hosted by Billy
Crystal, was held in June at Carter Finley Stadium in Raleigh,
N.C. Rock band Sugar Ray performed during the ceremonies, and
the Rev. Billy Graham offered the invocation. Shriver's mother,
Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founded the Special Olympics more than
30 years ago to celebrate the accomplishments of athletes with
mental retardation.

Athletes get a lift from Jon Bon Jovi
Rock star Jon Bon Jovi attended a powerlifting clinic Sunday and came
up short against Pauline Naturile and her New Jersey teammates.
Naturile, a 20-year veteran of Special Olympics, and her teammates
each completed their sets, lifting 300 pounds.
Jon has been involved with Special Olympics since the late 1980s
and attended his first World Games in 1991 in Minnesota. "It's great
to see how the Games have grown since then," he said.
He credits the spirit of the athletes for his involvement with
the Games. "The athletes like to win, but that's not the main thing
for them," he said. "They get a chance to do things they don't often
get a chance to do, but most of all they're here to make new friends.
It's truly inspiring to watch people from my home state of New Jersey
making friends with people from Africa, Asia and Europe."
Jon is one of the artists on the newest Special Olympics
Christmas album due out in December.
"You don't have to have an athlete in the Games or know anything about
Special Olympics to become addicted," he said.
