On October 21,1954, Jan Hempenius and I arrived at Don Muang, Bangkok's airport, from Singapore.
We were picked up by Jaap Snijder van Wissenkerke, one of the Nationale Handelsbank 's staff members we were to replace. Since he had been scheduled for rapid transfer to Jakarta, he took us straight to the "Dutch Bank" on New Road, opposite the Post Office. We were introduced to the staff and immediately put to work till about 11 p.m. He then took us to our house in Bangkapi, which we were to share with another Dutchman, Karl Nieulant.
