Bako   National   Park

Located northwest of Kuching lies Bako National Park, Sarawak's oldest. It is easily accessible by road. Along the way, you will usually sight the White Collar Kingfisher, the smallest of the Kingfisher species sometimes as small as the size of your thumb. Upon reaching the Bako boat terminal, embark into a motorized boat for a 30 min journey winding along the edge of South China Sea taking in sights of the scenic coastal mountainous views before arriving at Telok Assam, site of the Park's headquarters. It is the Park's regulation to register at the Park's office. Next, browse through the Park's Information Center where a brief but comprehensive array of pictures and maps about the Park are on display.

Explore the Park to witness its rich abundance of flora and fauna through a couple of the 16 well planned trails compressed in only an area of 16 square kilometers but consisting of 25 types of vegetation. The mischievous long tailed macaques and bearded wild boars are common sights while we assist you to trace the shy proboscis during low tide. After the walk, settle down for a local lunch at the Park's canteen. Return in the afternoon.

If you opt for an overnight, there are better chances to catch a glimpse of more wildlife. Accommodation is provided in the Park's resthouse with basic overnight facilities. Check in and check out time is fixed at 1100 Hr.
