JUNE 14,1998 From: "Mr.O'cain" To: JOSEPH TORO Subject: Generated Help Hi thanks for your reply and help. Unfortunately I haven't heard from anyone yet. I went to the UAW web page and wrote the web master. She replied with a letter telling me to refer my request to the international, but they are part of the problem. You can leave the message on your page or take it off. What you did was show me that there are people out there willing to help other people ,it means a lot to myself and to the Local 4927. We are keeping our heads heald high. THANKS again Local 4927 Member

Dear Joseph,

Thank you so much for your letter of encouragement! The Brothers and Sisters on the line are getting stronger by the day, hearing from so many good folks such as yourself. My name is CJ Hamilla, I am a member of UAW Local 659, and recieved a copy of your letter from our local president, Duane Zuckschwerdt. I am writing you, to ask your permission to post your comments on the news group, alt.society.labor-unions. I have been attempting to post strike updates on some sort of regular basis, though I have gotten a little behind. (It's been kind of hectic lately) I also invite you, and your Brothers and Sisters to post commentsyourself to the newsgroup. I believe we can turn the tide that is now against us by sticking together, and the internet is onemore tool we can use to demonstrate our solidarity. I am hoping you can help us with your cooperation.

fraternally,

Hi Joe, Just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks for coming by the site and for linking us to the other union sites around the country. We have received letters of support from many other unions, contributions for our strike fund from some, and the well wishes from people all around the globe as we take on the giants of the towing industry. This movement has been a little herky-jerky right from the start due to the fact that none of us knew anything about unions much less how to start one! But with the help of the MM&P and others, we are slowly starting to make headway. We have not received all the help we would like from the ILA, but have probably received all we deserve. Many of our members could not work up the nerve to walk when it was time to do so, and this has crippled us to no small degree. But slowly, we are beginning to get organized and become an effective force. From what I understand, we are the first union to start right from ground-level and fight our way into existence in over a century. Many union men that I have communicated with seem to be backing us for this reason if no other. But we will continue to fight the good fight for as long as it takes. Thank your union brothers us for their prayers and encouragement.

In solidarity, Mark Haury-Webmaster-Pilots Agree

Date: Sun, 15 Mar 1998 05:45:16 PST Dear Brother Toro My name is Jim Tharp I am the president of UAW local 413 in Menominee MI, I work for a outdoor furniture manufacturer. Across the border in Marinette WI, we have one of those non-union BUDD plants, these people believe they have the greatest thing going since sliced bread. We have talked to some of the employees about organizing but like I said they think they have it great. I know for a fact their wages a benefits are not even close to what other organized BUDD plants are. If it is possible I would like to get a copy of your labor agreement to prove to these people that to be unionized is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I figure that if the non-unionized plants are going to take work away from us we better do a better job of getting them organized, better to have them with us than against us. If I could get a copy of your labor agreement you can send it to James Tharp President UAW Local 413 W-6146 Co. Rd. 346 Wallace, MI 49893

I have recently established a web site - Hard Miles Music This real audio site features my CD, UNITE's Whiteville Apparel Choir, and a gallery of union art from various campaigns. It is one of the very few sites devoted to the labor movement and the arts. You can read more about it in the January 5 issue of Work In Progress. ============== From UAW#2382 Subject: Union web sites

Hey Brother,

Got your e-mail and I am still in the process of talking my
exec board into a web site, and of course their main concern
is the cost and maintenance. I am going to try and utilize
the offer you have made and send you some info about our
local 2382 UAW. I personally am very excited about the
possibilities for our new local, chartered in April 97.
And am very hopeful that we will become a good example for
the other plants in our community of Greencastle,IN.
I checked out your site and it's impressive, great job.
Write to ya later, with more info.

And how? > Joe Toro Joe, Thanks for addin' my page to your links list. I'll do the same for yours. Here's the story on the scab list: I live in Iowa, a "right to work" state. For that reason, people who work at a "union" shop don't have to belong...but we have to represent them. I'm sure you're aware of such backwards-thinking states. We have a good Union local here that has done a fairly good job of representing us the last 50 years or so. But since people don't "have to" join, a large number of them have chosen to mooch off the rest of us. As they would say, "why pay for somethin' I can get for free." Whatta a bunch of freeloadin' asses.... For years our local wouldn't confront these people or publish their names. Over the last few years, with the help of some "inside info", I've found out the member status of everyone workin' at my place of employment. Since the Union wanted no part of naming the scabs, I felt the need to do it and to also let everyone who DOES pay Union dues know their co-workers who choose to be freeloaders. It's pissed off a good deal of the people on the list. They claim they're not "scabs" - "we haven't crossed a picket line." They are then told to read the dictionary......there are multiple definitions of "scab", and refusing to join a union is one them. There's one definate way to get off the list though, join....... So the answers to your question are: yes, they're still working, they're working at Rockwell International in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and they can do it since they get full representation without having to pay one damn cent for it. Wrinkles by the way, how'd ya stumble upon my page.....just curious as to how people find it. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject: Re: Bill Webb Date: Wed, 18 Jun 1997 17:17:38 -0700 From: "Dan Tate" To: "Joseph Toro" Hello Joe- Bostonbull is linked to Local#279's page- Thanks Dan *********************************************************** Dan Tate, Real Estate Broker Lingle Real Estate, Inc. 801 North "A" Street PO Box 1948 Richmond, Indiana 47375-1948 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Call Me for Residential/Commercial/Relocations & Consulting Moving/expanding to Indiana?--CALL ME ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 800-903-5531 Pager 800-473-0072 Ext: 332 765-962-1489 Ext: 332 ************************************************************ E-Mail or visit my homepage!
