Last Will and Testament


In the name of God amen, I Elisha Ludington of Roumbouts Precinct in Dutchess County and Province of New York being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God, Calling unto mind the mortallity of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all once to die Do make and ordain this My last will and Testament that is to say principally and First of all I give and Recommend my soul into the hand of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth. To Burried in Decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors. Nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall the same again by the mighty Tower of God and as touching such worldly Estates wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give Dev??ise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form and first of all to my oldest my lawful Debts to be paid and five pounds to be paid unto my son Comfort out of my estate, Second to my son Asa Ludington four pounds to be paid out of my estate. I give my daughter Abigail three pounds. I give unto my son Elisha Ludington all my right and titles of a tract of land which I enjoy and possess containing eight hundred acres. The said tract of land to be rented out. Two thirds of the rent to be put out to use for the benefit of my son Elisha and to be paid him when he becomes of age. No trees nor woods to be destroyed or carried off the old premises, only what is necessary for the benefit of the old premises. I give unto my daughter Lydia ??????? Ludington Fifty pounds to be raised and levied out of my estate, namely my movable estate if there be sufficient to pay it. If not, the remainder part to be raised out of the land together with all my household goods, beds and bedding except lumber and my great Bible all my other books I give unto my son Elisha and all my wearing apparel likewise. I do constitute ordain Timothy Hatch of Fredericksburgh, Grecimand Edward Smith of "Brilden" Precinct, also of Dutchess County and Province afore said, to be exectors of this any Last will and I do hereby utterly disallow, revloke and disannul all and every other former Testaments wills, Legacies, Bequests and Executer By me in any way before Named willed and bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to Be my Last will and Testament in trust and to disposeof according to the Contents of this my will in witness whereof I have hereunto let my hand and seal this Twenty Fourth day of March A.D 1777.
