Earliest Objects Of My Penchant For Idol Worship

In case you haven't guessed by now, I'm a fan. Always have been. Maybe it's fixation, maybe it's just knowing what I like and liking what I see. Whatever it may be, it goes back a long way with me. I remember being drawn to people, usually women, when I was really young. The funny thing is, many of those I was drawn to turned out to be gay icons. At least for men. I don't know what they are to us women. They never study us! What do we know?! Screw the studies. These women were my icons!

Liza Minnelli

At age twelve I was becoming one of the biggest fans Liza ever had! All my friends had Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy posters. I looked in magazines for pictures of Liza! I coulda died when she was on the cover of Newsweek magazine after winning her Oscar for "Cabaret"! To this day I love Liza. I've seen her live--which I heartily recommend--and I still follow her career. She's still got great pipes!

Mae West

Mae was decades ahead of her time. People were so busy being scandalized by her they never noticed what a talented author, playwright and social commentator she was. Not to mention her wit! The woman was smart, talented and funny! Of course in those days women were supposed to be seen and not heard. It's no wonder she got arrested so much! I don't think it had anything to do with her high sexual profile. They just didn't know what to do with a woman who spoke her mind.

A Few Extremely Quotable Quotes Attributed To Mae West

"Between two evils I'll pick the one I never tried before."

"Some men are all right in their place--if they only knew the right places!"

"The score never interested me, only the game."

"There are no withholding taxes in the wages of sin."

"Don't ever make the same mistake twice--unless it pays."

"When I'm good I'm very, very good. But when I'm bad I'm better!"

"Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!"

"A woman in love can't be reasonable, or she probably wouldn't be in love!"

Katherine Hepburn

Ah, another smart woman! Kate always stood out because of her refusal to conform. She dressed differently, she spoke differently, she believed in unpopular things. Add to that the fact that she was extremely talented. She's been my hero for a very long time.
