Hi kids, grandchildren and all you future great- grandchildren, etc.


My need to know who has gone before me prompted me to start this web site.

I'm writing this letter to you so that some of the stories of your Granddads life and immigration to the United States from Osijek, Austria-Hungary don't get lost over time. I wish Grandma Slama was here to do this because I'm no story teller, I've never had the gift, but I'll do the best I can.

I don't know much about my Granddad's and Grandma's life in the old country, it's for this reason I'm attempting to put down on cyber paper the stories we do have. I want my children to know who their Granddad was.

The first story I remember is my grandmother telling me she worked in the fields for ten cents a day. Life for the peasant class couldn't have been easy.

Here is a map of Osijek, Croatia as it is today. After World War ll, the area was changed to Yugoslavia, after the breakup of the Soviet Union, it was changed again, to Croatia.

While surfing the net, I found a post by a second cousin, my Uncle Joe and Aunt Pauline's granddaughter, about "Julius Slama," my Great Uncle. That find, is what started all this. Being new at all this internet stuff, I was tickled to find anything about the "Slama" family.
