Arriving in Kent, we all stayed with my Fathers cousin Julia, and her husband, Ray Sweeny. They had children of their own, so the house was filled to capacity.

From there, we moved to Loretta's farm. Dad bought a small camping trailer
and parked it beside a lath sided shed. The trailer was too small for everyone to sleep in, so Mom and I slept in the trailer and Dad, Duane and Bob slept in the shed. That was fine in the warm months, but in the winter, the snow blew through the cracks. By morning they were covered with snow. Can you imagine that?

We moved then, to Cherry Street in Kent, for how long I don't know. Then we moved in with my Fathers brother, Uncle Joe and his wife Pauline, into an upstairs apartment. on South Water St. From there we moved to N. Water Street, another upstairs apartment.

Dad loved to play poker, I remember on the nights that he did well at cards, he would bring ice cream and sodas home, (quite a treat in those days) and wake us all up to eat ice cream. Sometimes we would wake up in the morning with a bowl full of melted ice cream by the bedside, wanting to know who had ice cream?

One evening he was playing poker with Mr. Shanley who had run out of money and, the only thing he had to bet was his house, Dad won the hand, which was the down payment, we made another move to N. Mantua Street, into a not so well maintained large two story house.
