The first humans, just by chance, wondered into the land of Xanth and made a living. They had little effect on the land, though, because there were so few of them at that time.

Then, a large amount of humans moves to Xanth-the First Wave. They cut down trees, and cleared land for crops. The firstwavers discovered that all Xanth was magic, so they built a stockade. They burned all the plants and killed the animals within it. They brought in Mundane food and animals plus Mundane wives. To their surprise their children were born with magic, and they decided to stay for good.

It was discovered that one of the First Wave children had a talent that enabled him to turn lead to gold. Word leaked out to Mundania, but they, not believing in magic, thought that the Xanthians had a machine that turned lead to gold, not a magic child. Thus the Second Wave came. They went throughout killing all the men and children, sparing the women, who they married themselves. But soon the secondwavers were disappointed to learn that one of the children they had killed was the one that turned lead to gold.

Overtime the secondwavers settles down and became peaceful but it was then the third wave came, once again, killing all but the women. Few of these thirdwavers lived long because the woman used magic and other methods of disposal and killed their rapist husbands. The Fourth Wave consisted of the new men the women chose themselves to bring into Xanth for husbands. These men were not only strong fighters, but intelligent. Along with this the women themselves were getting old and brought in new young women with the men. The Fourth Wave marks the beginning of human dominance in Xanth.

The next eight waves lasted years to several generations before the new Mundanes settled down in Xanth.

The Twelfth Wave was the last Wave for 125 years. A few years after the Twelfth Wave ended King Ebnez adapted the Deathstone to the Sheildstone to protect Xanth from any further Waves.

The Thirteenth Wave was the members of Trents Mundane army settling into Xanth when Trent returned and was crowned King.

The Fourteenth Wave was the invasion of General Hasbinbad and his Carthaginian mercenaries, who collaborated with a Xanth citizen known as the horseman. That was when the Chain of Kings commenced.
