If You're Lookin For Information About Fishin In Bama . . . You're At The Right Place.

Alabama Fishing
Every once in a while a person is entitled to change his or her fishin habits. Well folks that is what ol pappy has been doin these last few weeks. It seems that I went out to do a little reel fishin for some squealers and happened to see the stripes rollin in the water like a bunch of hogs in mud. So that's where I've been..rod and reel in hand castin that spoon out and whoopee have I been nabbin me some striped bass! When they stop hittin I'll go back to the cats but in the meantime there's nothin wrong with havin a little extra fun.
Since I live about 30 feet from this river I do know what's going on here. The catfishing has been a little slow but they will bite if you're persistant. Most folks around here are havin luck with the old faithful nightcrawler. However I tried some squirrel liver that I saved from one of my hunts and they like it. The big cats are kinda hard to find unless you're usin a snag line. One of my neighbors pulled in a thirty plus on the trot line last week. I don't think many people fish as hard as he does and he's been havin a time catchin supper. So all and all the cats are slow here. Crappie fishin is great and makes up for the slowness of the cats. They are down about 17 foot or more. I've seen some nice stringers.
LAKE MARTIN
The fish are doing about the same at Lake Martin. Bass fishing is great for an angler that has a good supply of crankbaits, plastic baits and spinnerbaits. The crappie at Lake Martin are also found around submerged structures and treetops. They won't pass a minnow up but occasionally they are hitting jigs. The stripes seem to have a preference for live shad. Look in the deeper waters and also carry a few spoons with you. Catfishing is slow here also.
COOSA RIVER
Well it seems like I'm singing the same old song. Catfishing is slow here also. The crappie seem to be biting better than most species. Just remember...fish deep and carry alot of minnows. Bass are biting so-so and are around the ledges. Use a variety of plastic baits and hair jigs. The hybrid bass are kind of slow. If you have any luck with them you will need to fish with crankbaits and jigs.
LAKE EUFAULA
Everything is slow here except for the bass. As with everywhere else, you will have better luck if you fish for them around the main river ledges. Use a variety of plastic worms and deep crankbaits for the best results. Crappie are biting fair...again...deep water and live minnows.
FISHING AROUND MOBILE AND ORANGE BEACH
If you like to bottom fish then you will be happy to hear that the triggerfish, amberjack, grouper and snapper are great right now. Fishing inshore will bring you a good supply of redfish and speckled trout. I hear that some nice King Mackerel are being caught on drift lines.
