Here are some VERY important suggestions:

  • The cavy's cage should be at least three times the cavy's size.

  • Use only pine wood shavings at the bottom of the cavy's cage.

  • Do no use a wire bottom cage.

  • Do not keep the cage in direct sunlight.

  • Feed the cavy only guinea pig pellets.

  • Change the cavy's water every day.

  • You should clean the cage every 2 - 3 days.

  • Feed the cavy a treat with a large amount of Vitamin C. I suggest oranges, apples, spinach or parsley.

  • Cavy's enjoy most fruits and vegetables. Wash all fruits and vegetables before feeding. "If you won't eat it, don't feed it."

  • Don't crowd the cavy's.

  • Never, never, never hit the cavy.

  • Handel cavy with gentel care ang kindness.

  • Isolate a sick cavy.

  • Groom the cavy.

  • Talk softly to your cavy.

  • Strict control of vermin and insects.

  • Give the cavy loves every day. They thrive on it.

Do a health check:

  • Check body for missing hair, cuts, swelling, parasites, etc.

  • Check ears for injury.

  • Check eyes for infection.

  • Check for runny nose.

  • Check teeth for overgrowth or breaks.

  • Check genital area for debris.

  • Check perineal sac for impaction.

  • Trim toenails.

  • Check feet for injury.

  • Groom cavy with soft brush.

  • Have a good cuddle and conversation.
