To the Memory of Mary W. Jackson, died July 24,1834, age 33 years and William Wilson, died Oct. 7,1834, age 25 years. Both of Boston,U.S.A.

Mary had visited her brother in the summer of 1834, two years before the Battle of San Jacinto,Texas. Within months of each other, the two died from an unknown epidemic.
After their deaths the Wilson family left for Boston. The graves were located inside the Shell Refinery Tank Farm which used to be the Wilson property. In 1976 the gravestone was moved to Dow Park, where it remains to this day. (Deer Park, A History of a Texas Town by Barbara Weidig/1976)

Located north of Bay Area Park, Pasadena,Texas, in wooded area.
Old family settlement.
Two graves with a fence around it. In great condition. (Up date) Mar. 2,2000 Lilly Engleman states that there are four graves in the Henry Cemetery. The daughter of Jourdan Henry and her husband are buried at the foot of the Henry's graves. They have no gravestones.

During the middle of the 1800's about a dozen families of European origin settled on the east banks of Middle Bayou. Their settlement called "Middle Bayou" or "The Old French Settlement", named after the four Louisiana French families living there for several decades. They floated barges with their produce down the bayou to market. The settlement had a post office and a school called the "Middle Bayou School".

1880 Census listed near the Jourdan Henry family were the families of Nicholas Hammer and James and Frederick Martyn. (See Taylor Bayou Cem.)
Also the Kellerman Family. (See Kellerman Cem.) Thomas Dodson, Ballentines, and Gozman families lived near by.

OLD CITY CEMETERY Located at Girard at Elder, Houston,Texas. Under the old Jefferson Davis Hospital and other city buildings. Cemetery 1836-?, Confederate graveyard within cemetery now under firestation. Only gravestones showing are the Super family. At one time was a very large city cemetery.

By 1840, Founders Cemetery became full. A new cemetery was created on a 5 acre tract near White Oak Bayou. There was four sections. Potters field, black, the rich, and all others. Victims of yellow fellow were burial here. By the 1870's the cemetery was almost full. Last burial's around 1904. In the 1920's the City of Houston and Harris County constructed the county hospital named later as JEFFERSON DAVIS HOSPITAL. Theoma Smith,73, stated "They are out there digging up peoples graves and just throwing the bones out!'' Joseph M., 80, remembers when they were building the hospital, there were putting bones in nail kegs or crates. Were they reburied?, no one knows for sure. In 1968, bones were discovered when the Fire Department maintenance facilities was built. These bones were reburied in the MAGNOLIA CEMETERY in Houston. On Sept. 6,1986 the City of Houston dug a 20 foot tench near Girard St. and uncovered 20 or more graves from the 1840 City Cemetery. Bones were taken from graves by workers. There are still more graves out there. Why was something not done about this historical cemetery from the beginning. Houston,Texas should be ashamed of itself.
SEYMOURS PLOT Located near docks 23-25 of the Houston Ship Channel. Was uncovered on April 20,1963 when the ground was cleared for the docks. Reported by Bernard Murphy of the Houston Post.
