TRUTHS ABOUT THE JUDGMENT FROM ROMANS CHAPTER 2

This chapter shows the Jew that he is a sinner and in need of the
saving gospel of Jesus Christ. There are several times that the
judgment is found in this chapter. These references to the judgment
are important to us all.
  1. The things in which we judge others will also be the things that
judge us. "Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art
that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest
thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things." (Rom. 2:1). It
is sad to condemn others while we are guilty of the same practices.
The Jews were guilty of this and so are many people in the world today.
2. The Judgment of God is according to truth. "But we are sure that
the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit
such things." (Romans 2:2). God's word is the truth (John 17:17). We
are told to "Judge righteous judgment" (John 7:24). If a thing is
condemned in God's word then we can condemn that thing. The word of
God is in this world to show us how to live and it will be opened
judgment day to see if we have followed it.
  3. No man can escape the Judgment of God. "And thinkest thou this,
O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same,
that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?" (Rom. 2:3). Some of the
Jews thought that since they were God's special people that they would
not have to face God in judgment. How wrong they were. Do not think
that you or I will escape the judgment of God because we will not. Say,
friend, what are you doing with your life? Are you preparing for the
judgment? We will be there and give account of our deeds (2 Cor. 5:10).
  4. Men can store up wrath which will face them in the Judgment. "But
after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself
wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment
of God" (Rom. 2:5). Hard hearted people commit all sorts of crimes
against their fellow men. They beat, kill, rob, molest, steal, cheat,
commit fornication, and other evil things through their lives upon
this earth. Such are just heaping sins up and will face God in judgment
with all these things against them. Many never think of this as they
live out their sinful lives upon this earth.
  5. Judgment will be according to each person's deeds. Romans 2:6.
states, "Who will render to every man according to his deeds". There
are only two kinds of deeds. 1) We can by patient continuance in well
doing seek for glory, honor and immortality and reap eternal life.
2) Some are contentious and will not obey the truth and they will face
indignation, wrath, tribulation and wrath. (Rom. 2:7,8). Which will it
be for you and me? We have our choices in the matter but we will give
account for the choices we make. "Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth;
and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the
ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou,
that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment."
(Ecc. 11:9).
  6. God will not respect persons in the judgment. Rom. 2:11 states,
"For there is no respect of persons with God." Every person has the
same opportunities of knowing the truth, obeying the truth, worshipping
according to truth, and living the truth. We all have the Bible in our
homes and can know the way God wants us to walk. Just because we have
been deceived by someone will not justify us in the Judgment. We need
to love the truth so much that we are not easily deceived by
unscrupulous men. We should be testing the teachers to see if they are
true or false (I John 4:1; I Thes. 5:21). Whether we are rich or poor,
educated or uneducated, black or white, will not matter in the day of
judgment. It will be our deeds that will be important. It is not who
we are but what we are that will count on Judgment day.
  7. God will judge the secrets of men on the day of Judgment.
(Rom. 2:16). People think that what they do in secret will never be
known. However this is untrue. The hidden things of darkness will be
brought to light. "For God shall bring every work into judgment, with
every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil."
(Ecc. 12:14). Men usually are not able to hide their wicked deeds from
their fellowmen for very long, but one thing is sure and certain they
haven't hidden anything from God for any of the time. The eyes of the
Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good. (Prov. 15:3).
  8. Jesus Christ will be the judge (Rom. 2:16). God has appointed a
day of Judgment and will judge by that man he has ordained, who is
the resurrected Christ (Acts 17:31). Since God will judge by Christ
it is up to us to obey Christ so he will be author of eternal life for
us (Heb. 5;8,9). Matthew 25:31-46 gives account of Christ judging the
people of all nations.
  9. Judgment will be according to the gospel for those of us who live
in the Christian age. (Rom. 2:16). The gospel is the power of God to
salvation to all who believe (Rom. 1:16). How important it is to obey
from the heart that form of doctrine so we can be made free from sins
and be made the servants of righteousness (Rom. 6:17, 18). Continue
in gospel light so you will be ready for the Judgment.
