HEADLINE:  ACTOR  IS VOLUNTEER ESCORT AT FLORIDA ABORTION CLINIC

    Curtis Armstrong,  who played Booger in "Revenge of the Nerds" and its

sequels, has taken on a more challenging role: a volunteer escort at an abortion

clinic.

   Armstrong volunteered last weekend to shield patients from protesters at

Pensacola Women's Medical Services, the clinic where Dr. David Gunn was murdered

last year by an anti-abortion activist.

   The clinic was performing the first abortions in Pensacola since another

doctor and his escort were shot to death July 29 at the city's other abortion

clinic.

   "It's a very emotional thing to be here," Armstrong said. "I feel deep

sadness and great anger. I still find it hard to believe."

   Armstrong said he has been an active supporter in abortion rights since 1989

when Operation Rescue, an anti-abortion group, began a protest campaign in Los

Angeles.
