My Letter to MTV

This is what started it all. I was rapidly losing my patience with MTV, but this ended it all. I am boycotting MTV and encourage you to do the same. Here is the letter verbatim.

Your 12 angry viewers show on Metallica was a disgrace. You allow your hip group of Gen X-ers to belittle a band after 15 years of kicking ass. Metallica has accomplished more than any of those 12 future welfare recipients could ever dream. To hear vapid and inane comments such as "it's too angry" or "the video is too busy" from some contentious idiot who looks good in a bathing suit is an insult to the viewer's intelligence. The fact that the host made disparaging comments towards Metallica and heavy metal fans in general repulses me. So talking about death is bad, but having relations with multiple women while concurrently gloryfying violence is acceptable? The statements made by these people who allow the media to think for them are so contradictory, it's hilarious.

MTV's rancor towards heavy metal showed full force today. You don't even have the decency to show each video in its entirety. Videos are not the reason people watch, it's the music. I would tune in to MTV if you played great bands like Helmet and Pantera with just a black screen. The ignominy you bestow upon television in general is grotesque. First Headbanger's Ball, then Beavis and Butt-head, and now the appalling manner in which you treat Metallica (one of the greatest metal bands of all time and guys who have accomidated your request for contests). Look back to the MTV archives in the early 90's, when a fair sampling of metal was actually played.

For your utter lack of respect for musical tastes outside the mainstream, I will never watch MTV again.

Hope you waste away in the eternal pit of dispair that awaits all you counterfeits who follow trends and aren't true to themselves, Charles Wilson cpwilson@hotmail.com

P.S. Never allow that host to talk about metal or headbang again. Her mockery of metal disgusts me.
