4/23/02 - L.A. Times Festival of Books 4/27 & 4/28/02. Free except parking?

4/25.1/01 - L.A. Times Festival of Books, the 6th., at UCLA. See www.latimes.com/festivalofbooks for details. It's April 28-29, 2001. Outdoor stuff is free, UCLA parking is $6, and you'll need to get "free" tickets for indoor events - Check their site.

4/25/01 - Crown Books, that whole group, started a bankruptcy sales about last month. Check your local Super Crown, Crown, etc. stores, if they're still open.

4/24/01 - "The Code Book," by Simon Singh, 1999, 402 pages, at $24.95, from Doubleday. Covers a few cryptography topics in depth and just mentions others, but does update some topics and info. Covers Enigma and mentions Lorenz and the Colossus computer. Some coverage of quantum computers and quantum cryptography plus lost languages. With list of references and web sites. One of the more modern books and worth reading from your library. See www.simonsingh.com/ for links, info, etc.

10/14/00 - The Cook' Library will have signings by five cookbook author between 10/21 and 11/18/00. They do have a mailing list.

8/11/00 - "The Los Angeles Latino Book & Family Festival," with Edward James Olmos, 8/26 & 8/27/2000, L.A. Convention Center, free admmission, but you know they'll stick you for parking, and a parking ticket or tow away can mess up your day. Site at www.latinobookfestival.com. The books could be only a minor part of the Trade Show. [My mistake, at first I listed the wrong dates.]

4/5/00 - Book Again's next sale is 4/7, 8, 9, 14, 15, & 16 with half off. You can get on their mailing list.

1/23/00 - Book Again, another sale, two for one, 1/21-1/23 & 1/28-1/30, I got the post card 1/22/00.

12/2/99 - Book Again changed their hours again and is having a sale. New hours are Tue - Sun, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Monday. The sale is 50% off the inside books, Fri 12/3/99 to Sun 12/5/99.

11/10/99 - The Book Baron (used books) with stores in Long Beach, Anahein, and Fullerton has a sale from 11/12/99 to 11/21/99. Looks like you have to be on their mailing list to receive the 25% discount coupons. Web site at www.bookbaron.com.

9/4/99 - The 9/2/99 Easy Reader on page 21, reports that the Either/Or Bookstore closed Wednesday (8/31/99?). They quote one representative as saying, "We may open again, but I doubt it." They never did well in the new location, and parking was always a mess. The superstores and internet bookstores didn't help either. 9/13/99 - The Beach Reporter also has the story and says they opened in 1967.

8/7/99 - Book Again changed their hours to: Tuesday thru Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday. They haven't changed their web site at www.bookagain.com yet.

7/13/99 - It's 7/17/99, Torrance Library, used-book blow-out sale. They lost the storage space in basement so all used books must go at 10-cents each. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Katy Geissert main branch, 3301 Torrance Blvd.

7/12.2/99 - Santa Monica Book and Print Fair, 7/17/99 & 7/18/99, 1-888-820-0043. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. $6.00 admission for both days. See www.americanbookfair.com.

7/12.1/99 - Phoenix Books (used) - Signing 7/14. Parking lot sale 7/23 - 7/25. "Bargains you will not believe."

7/12/99 - Book Again (used) - "2 for 1 sale!!" 7/16 - 7/18 & 7/23 - 7/25.

7/3/99 - Brindles Bookstore in Tustin (Orange County) is doing a up-to-75%-off sale from 7/8 to 7/11 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. They moved, so call 714-731-5773 for location.

June 12 & 13, 1999 is a outdoor tent sale of new bargain books at Borders Books, 3700 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503, phone 310-540-7000. That's the south side of Torrance Blvd., between Hawthorne Blvd. and Madrona Ave. They said it's 50% to 90% off list prices. Hours may be 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. but call.

The next sidewalk used book sale at The Cooks Library is June 12, 1999, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. See the used-book page for the address.

Sale - JB Kennedy Bookseller, 614 Torrance Blvd., Redondo Beach; southeast corner at Camino Real. He was doing his any-book-for-$2-sale on 4/17/99. 4/23 thru 4/26 was the any-book-for-$1-sale. Much of the cat smell is gone.

Sale - Book Again - 5039 Torrance Blvd., Torrance. Newsletter, sales, etc. Their web site is www.bookagain.com. Next sales are 4/9-4/11 & 4/16-4/18/99 with 40% off paperbacks & 50% off hardbacks.

Moved - Phoenix Books - moved about 11/98 from PCH to 24411 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance. That's about two blocks south of PCH on the west side of the street. From Hawthorne Blvd, go west on 244th St, go south at the first alley, and about the third building and parking lot are the place. Their web site is at www.boseent.com. On the book store page, see the "Directions to Bookstore" page for a map. This store is reported to be over twice as big as the last store.
