2/27/99 - The L.A. Times doesn't usually list many of my favorite radio shows, but today they listed eight plus three I'll check out. The three are "Traffic Jam" from 7-10 p.m. on 1110 [YES!], "Wine, Dine and Travel" from 2-3 p.m. on 1600 [NO!], and "Travel" from 7-10 p.m. on 1110 [*missed].

2/27/99 - "Wine, Dine and Travel" on 1600 will be deleted from my list soon. Their web site has caused a Netscape crash on exit since I found it over two months ago, and they're not listing the correct spot for the show. It's a weak signal in the South Bay, and sometimes I'm not sure it's on the air. If anyone finds the show again, I'll list it. *Deleted 3/1/99.*

2/26/99 - Karel and Andrew report they had fun this week sitting in for Tim and Neal on KFI. They will be on tonight from 11 p.m. to Sat 3 a.m. and then Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. I don't usually listen to or discuss the general-topic talk shows, but I must admit they did a very good job and added their own touch to the show. Since they are one of the few L.A.-based shows on KFI, I'd like to hear more about L.A. when they get their own show. See other comments below.

2/25/99 - Just checked the KIEV web site, and their Sun schedule didn't change, but they made a few changes on Sat. The "Radio AM-FM Live" replay and both "Crime Line" shows from last week are gone. Hope they return. Didn't see any schedule changes on KABC, KFI, or KLSX. They seldom do updates, but saw small adjustments on the KLSX site.

2/25/99 - Warren Olney who hosts "Which Way, L.A.?" and Nina Totenberg who is the legal affairs correspondent for National Public Radio (NPR) both won awards per the L.A. Times Morning Report in the Calendar section on page 50.

2/24/99 - I'm nuts. I started a simple version of my ClickRadio idea. HTML will be large and upkeep crazy. Any comments?? *I need your comments, leave them on the message board - I'll keep building and expanding if people like the idea.*

2/22/99 - Chef Piero - I believe I heard him say yesterday that his radio shows consisted of: M-F, 10-11 a.m. on radio and Cable and on Sun from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on KRLA. The Sun show could end at noon, 12:30 p.m., or 1 p.m. I changed this on my Favorites page, but I can only verify the KRLA show.

2/22/99 - Yesterday's "Radio AM-FM Live" interviewed Larry Marino who does the M-F interview program on KIEV. For the last two weeks, the new host has been Larry (or John) Gassman. These guys know radio, and this show keeps getting better. This show may be repeated next Sat in the a.m. Check John & Larry Gassman at members.aol.com/radiolog/gassman.html.

2/22/99 - KNX and KFWB, the two big all-news stations in L.A., are both owned by CBS, along with other stations. KNX and KFWB came in at 21th and 22th in the recent Arbitron ratings, both recently started a "business hour" around noon (I heard reports), and KFWB recently started "features" to match KNX's features. Only KNX has a "drama hour" and "60 Minutes" for now. When do the simulcasts start?

2/20/99 - Group reviews for the computer and restaurant shows are now available from the Radio - Favorite Shows page. Just click on the Computer or Restaurant links. More review details when I get the time. In this process I may break some links, but I'll fix.

2/19/99 - For some reason, RAVE! didn't print Richard Wagoner's radio column. You can read the current column and past columns at his web site at lausd.k12.ca.us/~rwagoner/.

2/19/99 - Just one change for KIEV and the weekend schedule is ready till any last minute Saturday changes. Last week the KIEV show "AM-FM Radio Live" became "Radio AM-FM Live" and it keeps getting better. Heard almost two hours of Karel and Andrew, and its a different twist on the talk-show topics, not bad.

2/18/99 - Karel and Andrew report they sat in for Bill Handel this morning and will start tonight at 11 p.m. on KFI. See 2/10/99 report below.

2/16/99 - Did you hear "AM-FM Radio Live" on Sun night 2/14/99? They interviewed Gary Lycan who writes the radio column in the Sunday Orange County Register newspaper. Sounded like they were reading these Flashes a few times. Check www.ocregister.com. On the right side, click on Columns, then under Entertainment, click on Radio. The button to the right of Help is Search, as in Search for "radio."

2/16/99 - I'll only mention that the L.A. Times business section writers are on the new business hour on KFWB, Mon-Fri, from noon-1 p.m.

2/16/99 - I taped the Tomm Looney show which was on 2/13/99, from 3-5 a.m., on KLSX. It was a general talk show, nothing about radio, no mention of his schedule. I did email him to say I'd only mention his show again if it had something about radio. My mistake, I listed it before I knew what it was.

2/13/99 - The noncommericial FM stations (frequencies below 92) were delaying their fund drives till after the peach. Please do come back after the fund drives.

2/12/99 - Just checked the KIEV and some other changeable web site schedules, and I don't see any changes for my schedule. The peach is over so the preemptions should be over also. Do check the items back to 2/5/99 for info on shows which are or are not on my schedule.

2/11/99 - Saw on other sites for KKLA 99.5 FM: "Live from L.A." with Stephanie Edwards, M-F, 7-8 p.m. *heard 2/11/99, it's ok*. Also, old-time radio, Sat from 8-10 p.m. *was not on*.

2/11/99 - "When Radio Was" has NOT been in its expected midnight to 1 a.m. time slot on KLAC 570 AM. I checked a few times, and its gone, but I'll leave the listing for a while. KLAC* - get a web site or at least get an announcer to read your schedule. *Deleted it 2/17/99, but it may return.*

2/10/99 - Karel and Andrew www.karel-andrew.com* or www.gaywired.com/karel/ said they will sit in for another host on KFI 640 AM from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., on these days: Thu 2/18, Fri 2/19, and Mon-Fri 2/22-2/26/99. I have not heard enough of them to have a opinion yet. PS: It is not clear to me which day is 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thu 2/18/99. *This is not on my Favorites list yet.

2/8/99 - Want to record four hours or more of audio from your radio while your're away? Mr Gadget at www.mrgadget.com says he has the answer using your VCR and $10.00. I've done something like this, and it works, but it is only practical if you can dedicate a spare radio and VCR to the task. Do verify it works before the big day. Or, try Reel Talk at www.reeltalk.com. This sells for about $150 and I haven't seen it cheaper. Of the two, the VCR offers more program options, more record time*, and other VCR-type search features like real-time search*. Both will only record one station without a human, and both must be played back on the same type of equipment. How about a real VCR-type machine for the radio? I don't endorse any products.

2/6/99 - Radiowatch Los Angeles www.radiowatch.com is a new site about L.A. radio. More profession than mine; they know English, can spell, use grammer and they get the info correct. Check it out, and help it grow. Check first page for info about a show by Tomm Looney on KLSX 97.1 FM on Fri and Sat from 2-5 a.m. He writes* about radio, but I have not verified yet. *They say the press release used the term Friday and Saturday night 2-5 a.m. Just to be sure I'm going to check for the show on Fri, Sat, and Sun in the a.m.*

2/6/99 - For the last two weeks "Traffic Jam" has also been on Sat on KRLA 1110 AM after sports, starting between 7-8 p.m. and going till 10 p.m. I'm going to check for it this Sat also, or check their Sat 2-4 p.m. show for an announcement.

2/5/99 - "When Radio Was" moved from 9 to 10 p.m. to the midnight to 1 a.m. slot this week on KLAC 570 AM. The days of the week have not been verified, but it's listed under Mon-Fri for now. Thanks to the L.A. Times for the tip. The KNX Drama Hour has been very strong in the 9-10 p.m. slot for years, but why not move to the slots before or after the KNX Drama Hour to complement that show? KLAC joins KGIL,KGXL, KKLA, even KNX *("CBS Mystery Theater") and perhaps other stations who have tried old-time radio shows in the last year and failed. Of those stations only KNX and KKLA had a web site.

2/3/99 - KRLA 1110 AM must have known they were going talk at least three months ago, and they still don't have a web site. Big mistake. *Just noticed a very small billboard in Torrance.

2/3/99 - KABC just fixed their site in the last few month so I could get in with Netscape. Now it's under construction again. They still haven't posted a schedule - which is an interesting use for a radio station's web site.

2/2/99 - Congratulations to KIEV. They update their weekend schedule before the weekend and also update their daily schedule often. And, they date the pages in their schedule also.

2/2/99 - I heard about the time change for Sun "60 Minutes", but I couldn't update the schedule.
